The Liverpool owner John Henry has been taken to hospital after falling on his 164-foot boat in Boston.

Henry, who also owns the Boston Red Sox baseball team, was seen leaving the $32m (£25.5m) yacht wearing a neck brace and was treated by paramedics at the scene before being put on a stretcher and taken to Massachusetts General Hospital in an ambulance.

"He walked down the gangplank and he pretty much walked on his own and he was then taken off on a stretcher," an eye witness told the Boston Herald.

Boston Red Sox president, Larry Lucchino, told the radio station WBZ-AM that Henry was injured but was able to walk off the boat wearing a neck brace.

The accident occurred less than 24 hours before Liverpool play Merseyside rivals Everton at Anfield on Saturday and on the day Boston Red Sox announced the departure of Terry Francona, the manager who led the team to two World Series victories, after the team failed to make the play-offs.

Well, they've spent a fortune on the red sox who've just bottled it to an extreme level.

And they've spent a fortune on Liverpool...

For those of us who find baseball less than entertaining, can you give us a summary?

It's all well & good is having tales of how good their systems & other clubs are but I've got no clue what type of success they've had or how its effected the teams long term fortunes in real terms.

Ross or whad are probably the men for the job, but basically they bought two guys on massive contracts this year (one of them was excellent to be fair) and everyone expected them to at least make the 'final'. Instead they have missed the playoffs, becoming the first team ever to have a 9 game lead in the playoff race at the start of September and blow it.

The head coach has left by mutual consent although it seems he's walked before he was pushed, and they are keen to stress he's "not a scapegoat".

Still, he's won the title twice, after they hadn't won it for 86 years.

Basically their wonder GM has been making fuck ups for the past few years and it started to cost them. Their drafts have been poor given the money they spend, Lackey is a massive fuck up as is Dice K. Crawford may redeem himself in time but right now another six years at 20m is looking bad. Injuries to Bucholz and Youkilis havent helped either. Despite their being rumours of clubhouse issues its hard to see what Francona could have done better with the hand Epstein dealt him.

Theo hasnt got much right in the last three years

So, a bit like Rafa then, first couple of years of greatness then it all slipped away amidst some poor buys?

He was probably thinking about money spent on Carroll and Henderson and then missed a stair or something...
