Biography
Valuev was born on August 21, 1973, in Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg). Valuev is of Russian descent, but he also had a Tatar grandfather.[2][3][4]
As a teenager and a young man Valuev's father, the chief of the village fire company, often used his son as a ladder to reach the thatched roofs of the local houses. He was also used to rescue kittens from trees.
He wooed his wife, Galya, with poetry that he composed himself. He has two young children, a son and a daughter. He hunts deer, ducks and wild boar and goes fishing with his son. Once on a hunt not far from St. Petersburg, it is said Valuev wrestled and killed a wild boar using only his hands.[5]
Valuev is a Russian Orthodox Christian.[6] During his youth he played water polo and basketball, and was also a discus thrower.
