Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has admitted that some of his infamous late tackles were made to "get people back" for previous fouls.

Scholes retired in the summer and has since become an outspoken antithesis to the media-shy character of his playing days.

His latest missive came in an interview with BBC Radio Five Live, where he rubbished his reputation for being unable to tackle - admitting that sometimes he fully intended to kick opponents.

"Of course I can tackle," Scholes said. "There's plenty of evidence of being able to tackle.

"I was just getting people back. If someone got me early in the game it was always in the back of my mind that I needed to get them back.

"I didn't always do it on purpose, some of it was just bad timing, I suppose.

"But I think throughout my career the record wasn't that bad, there were not that many yellow cards. Well, I suppose a few yellow cards, but not many sendings-off.

"But I think towards the end every time I made one tackle I got booked, because of my reputation I suppose."
 
I'm more concern of the bad timing, shit tackle, average, centre midfield cum defensive midfielder that we have in our team that is Lucas Leiva.

Back on topic, I knew Scholes was a dirty prick. He's obviously being tongue in cheek here but for years he has gotten away with late fouls. The commentators would laugh it off saying "He never did learn to tackle" or "typical Scholesy".

Fuck that, he's a dirty ginger prick. No offence gingers.
