If we only had the random stuff thread I could have posted this there. It (what I am positing, not the general subject) really doesn't warrant its own thread, but there was nowhere obvious to put it.

Anyway - this made me chuckle; both the attitude of the SFA merely 40 odd years ago, and the obvious follow on question to ask a woman footballer once you've asked her if its right for women to play the game

About women's footy, and thank god this is 6CM and not Twitter where I'd get shot down by all the SJW, but is there an actual scientific/biological reason why women goalkeepers are fucking shocking? The standard of outfield players has gone up, but keepers are still dreadful.

Obviously men and women are different biologically and physically (shock horror!) So is it something to do with that?

Don't have any links for you but yes there are biological differences. Men have better hand eye coordination than women and men also react quicker than women in general. Then there's the height issue as well.
So yeah there's something too it.

Well, actually, the reason there's no decent women goalkeepers is because the lezzers that play find no difficulty in kicking or heading balls but obviously still find the idea of grabbing and holding balls repulsive.

I don't know why it's trying so hard to be the men's game. If I was in charge step one would be to make the goals smaller and step two would be to give serious consideration to making the pitch smaller. A lot of the keepers are just there because they're lanky.

I chanced upon the first goal in the women's fa cup final the other weekend, shock it was ridiculous goalkeeping mistake.

Not to be disrespectful but they've done the same with the kids game. The sport should be tweaked to suit the skill / fitness / physical attributes of the participants and modified from there as/if everyone gets better.

I kinda agree with you about adapting the women's game to their level or physique but imagine for instance the problems that would come from just changing the size of the goal. Girls already have trouble finding pitches to train on, now basically everyone would have to buy women's regulation goals, so I just don't see it happening.

Yea that's something I thought about as I was writing. You're right every decision like this needs to be easily applicable for all levels. Shame though, I genuinely think it would help.

There's no way they'd make the goals smaller because you'd get all the nutjobs on Twitter claiming it was sexist or something.

Another thing that makes me cringe about women's footy is how hard they're forcing "Lionesses" on us for the England team. Fuck off, nobs.

I had a big fight with my ex because I said that if women supported women's football as much as men supported men's football they'd get paid the same. I told her that the time I spend watching football you spend watching some "Swedish housewives in Hollywood" reality show. So those women are making the money you want female footballers to have.
