Arsene Wenger
[article=http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/brian-reade-column-arsenal-arsene-3235299#ixzz2vqsv8KPn ]Wenger’s sole relation to history on nights like Tuesday is that it keeps repeating itself.

In a 30-year managerial career, he’s won domestic titles and cups in France and England, but, despite reaching 3 finals, he has yet to lift a European trophy.

He’s been with the Gunners for 18 years, spent 16 of them in the Champions League, made it out of his group every year for the past 14, yet vanished in the first knock-out stages for the past 4 seasons and reached only 1 final, which he lost.

As he did the 2000 UEFA Cup Final. And the 1992 Cup Winners’ Cup Final with Monaco.

For the most continental of managers, a deep-thinking tactician, a modernist, an urbane man, who has coached some of the most skilful players in the world, who has been given stability and money at a club the size of Arsenal, his failure to conquer Europe is a mystery that deepens by the year.

In his early Highbury days, he was quoted as saying: “If I never win the Champions League with Arsenal, my coaching career has been a failure.”[/article]

When you consider the shit squad we had when we won CL wenger has failed in Europe.

"With seven of their remaining nine fixtures coming against current bottom-half teams, there is every reason to believe that the Premier League trophy will be heading to Stamford Bridge for the first time since 2010."

Our 9 penalties awarded this season are also league leading. The next highest team has 4.

Penalties awarded to and against us in a dozen seasons:

Here's a staggering set of stats:

Of our 19 victories so far this season, we've scored:
- 1 goal 3 times (against Stoke, Villa, Man U, all coming on or before 1st Sep 2013).
- 2 goals 1 time (against Hull on New Year's Day 2014)
- 3 goals 6 times (against Sunderland, Palace, Cardiff, Fulham, Soton and Man U
- 4 goals 5 times (against West Brom, Fulham, West Ham, Everton and Swansea)
- 5 goals 4 times (against Norwich, Spurs, Stoke, Arsenal)

73% of our wins have involved us scoring 3 goals or more.
47% of our wins have involved us scoring 4 goals or more.

The only time we scored 3 goals and didn't win was against Everton.
Stopping at 2 goals is bad - out of the 4 times we scored only 2 goals, we've gone on to draw 3 of those games (against Swansea, Newcastle and Villa).

So if you're predicting 2-0 or 2-1 wins in the Crystal Ball 3 thread, you might want to reconsider the scores. :)

Where's the one Ming saved?

"Saved" refers to penalties we took that were saved by the opposing keeper, instead of our own saves. For example, Sturridge fired over and Gerrard fired against the post, so there were 2 misses but no saves. If you add up "Scored, Missed and Saved", you'll get the total number of penalties awarded to us.

Here's a staggering set of stats:
- 3 goals 6 times (against Sunderland, Palace, Cardiff, Fulham, Soton and Man U)
- 4 goals 5 times (against West Brom, Fulham, West Ham, Everton and Swansea)
- 5 goals 4 times (against Norwich, Spurs, Stoke, Arsenal)

Just made another observation. Look at the teams we've scored 3 or more goals against:
- Sunderland, Palace, Cardiff, Fulham (twice), Soton, Man U, West Brom, Fulham, West Ham, Everton, Swansea, Norwich, Spurs, Stoke, Arsenal.

That's 15 of the 19 opponents we've whacked for 3 or more goals. That's 78.9% of the league opponents we've faced.

Clubs we haven't demolished yet this season which are in our remaining games: City, Chelsea, Newcastle
We let Villa get away this season. We'll get them next time.

[article=http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11669/9218775?]They are not passing for the sake of it. In fact, Liverpool rank fifth in the Premier League for number of passes – down to 495 per game from 521 last year. Aggression in their attacking is the oft-repeated line now.

Liverpool have completed more dribbles (370) than any other Premier League team and have created more clear opportunities (67) too. [/article]

No Rodgers in the list.

Think our Louie and Bren will be rising those leagues (deservedly - even though in principle I don't agree with the insane figures payed to footballers) and more especially if we win the PL this year.

David Moyes' Man United in numbers
[article=http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/david-moyess-manchester-united-numbers-3255059#ixzz2wJxlRs00 ]26 - United are 26 points worse off this season than they were at this stage last year. They now have 48 points after 29 games. Last season, en route to title No.20, they had 74 points.

9 - They have suffered nine Premier League defeats this season, equally their worst total since the top flight was revamped in 1992. The last time they lost nine league games in a season was back in 2001-02, when United finished outside of the Premier League’s top two for the first time.

75 - United are on course for their worst-ever points total in the Premier League. Their lowest total is 75, which they posted in 1996-97 and 2003-04. They must win all nine of their remaining games to equal their worst-ever tally.

18 - This season United have scored just 18 goals at Old Trafford in the Premier League, equal to bottom club Fulham. They have scored 46 in total and need to plunder 12 more goals to equal their worst tally in a Premier League season, which was 58, back in 2004-05.

43 - There has been a staggering 43-point swing between United and Liverpool this season compared to last. After 29 games last season, United were on 74 points and Liverpool on 45. Now United are on 48, with Liverpool on 62.[/article]

Man Utd's record vs top half teams
United-1-10.png

Wait, we're the only ones in the top 10 so far to complete the league double over them and also shut them out? Sucks to be the other teams.

Also... WTF ... Villa at no. 10 is 9 points away from no. 9, and possibly just 6 points away from the relegation zone if Sunderland win their games in hand.

I see this graph and all I see is LOL.

Yet another loss for Tottenham on Sunday after an Europa League match on Thursday night. This is exactly the same pattern as last season.

Spurs have 53 points of 30 games. Without EL they have 40 pts of 19 games. After EL on Thu they have only 13 pts of 11 games (8 home games!)

It seems like the Europa League will cost Spurs possible CL qualification for 2nd season running. Last season they were just 1 point short.

Thankfully, the FA's in Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Russia, Ukraine, France & Germany do all they can to help their clubs.

The 'recovery day study' shows that only 2 rest days have a negative effect on performance while 3 or more rest days have no negative effect

Unfortunately, in football there are still many people who react with subjective opinions to objective facts. Is this only intelligence?[/article]

They can go cry me an effin' river. Look at some of the fixtures we had to put up with last season right after midweek European games. We had a brutal schedule in the first half of last season. Wouldn't blame anyone if they felt that someone in the scheduling room was conspiring against us.

And we still managed to get 3 points out of those 5 games, with the Everton game stolen from us by a wrong offside call at the death.
