We were the highest earners of TV money this season with £97.5M.

Citeh got a £96.6m
Chelsea - £94.1m
Arsenal - £92.9m
Scum - £89.1m

My understading is this is more than a 50% increase due to the new contract. I imagine the agents are having wet dreams

Is this just PL? Assume the others got more CL revenue.. Has that increased now that CL is shown on Sky?

Just PL.

All it really means is fees and wages will shoot up yet again. And that we should shop in the English market as little as possible.

How come we are at the top ? Why such a huge interest in us ? And how do the tv channels make thier selection in terms of who they decide to show.

Short answer, because Utd had such a poor season.

Long answer, it's a combination of how well you do in the league and how often your games are televised. We did the second best in the league, and because we have loads of fans, unlike City, we're also chosen by TV companies as often as they're allowed.

TV companies basically select whichever games attract the most viewers, but they also have to guarantee all clubs a minimum amount of appearances, the exact amount escapes me.

We were on 2nd most often last season, 1 game less than Utd.

Eh, no I think not - we were shown 28 times while Arsenal, United, Chelsea and City were shown 25 times, if I remember correctly. This topic was actually also discussed in another thread and there were a few charts posted there. Probably the stats thread.

Broadcasting money is split 50:25:25

1. 50% is shared equally amongst all teams
2. 25% is awarded based on merit, i.e. where the team finishes
3. 25% is awarded based on the number of times the club appears on TV; we were the club shown the most (28 games I think). No idea who decides how much of each time to show. For what it's worth, Stoke were shown the least number of times this season (7).

Thanks for the answers. Shit - i hope we carry on playing like this season. We will better it next season. Kind of makes sence - had loads of arguments with wife during the season and it was mainly to do with not wanting to go to the in-laws at the usual times as we were on tv nearly every weekend.

For the sake of a couple of days I didn't bother putting 2012/13, and it was 3 games less than Utd.

So we're up 42 million from last year, do we expect our transfer budget to be the same as last year plus £40 million ish? Plus sales that could be nearing £100 million!!

Personally, going off these figures, plus CL revenue, plus sustained commercial improvement, I'd say the quoted £60m budget sounds reasonable.

But everyone will be spending more, so that will just push the prices up. There's talk of Arsenal having £80m, and even Newcastle having £60m.
