Liverpool gathered the most points across 38 consecutive league games in any elite European league, ever.

As this era ends, we should remember what a phenomenal football team this was ... and how only oil money kept it from winning the trophies it deserved.

It is hard to believe that in our own club we've witnessed one of the greatest club teams of all time. Or certainly my lifetime. For me they're right up there with Barca 2011 and Bayern 2013

Certainly some achievement. But, when we look back on this/that period of probably our best ever team, is lack of trophies going to taint the legacy?

Thats the thing for me. So good, yet weren't the best.

I also dislike picking 2 arbitrary points and going "we were great"

Do it from game 1 to the last game, then we can discuss

Here's a challenge - is it possible for there to be a single thread in this forum when you miserable fuckers don't tear out the silver lining in order to wallow in the misery of the dark cloud?

Trophy count is the biggest factor. That team was the best of the rest which is nothing.
Well for a time it clearly wasn't the 'best of the rest' but the best team in the world (CL, PL & World Club titles). Only denied more by zemblanity and the massive investment of the Oil Clubs.

Money doesn't kick a football around a pitch. Investment has to be smart, and well as implemented appropriately. Something we've seemingly forgotten.

For all the issues we have with city spending, they could have fucked it up countless times. For the most part, they didn't. Like, we didn't have a bad transfer for like 3 years.

Best of the rest is 100% where that team lives

City (+ Chelsea & United) messed up many times - but it was easy to just throw another £100m at it. We have never been in that situation as everyone knows. When you spend enough sooner or later it's going to come good, aside from strengthening the squad to make it easier to cope with numerous injuries. Other clubs, inc. ourselves, need to be more parsimonious.

Even our current transfer record can't be considered poor in terms of quality for money spent, misplaced perhaps, but then we don't know what long term plans are in place for next season (if it includes Bellingham + another couple of midfielders then I can forgive this crap season).
