Mohamed Fadl, the director of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations revealed the official tournament mascot, which represents a child wearing an Egyptian shirt and a pharaonic outfit, his foot on the official championship’s ball.[/article]

Another strike against Klopp. Can't even bring home the AFCON trophy when everyone considered us favourites. We didn't even qualify apparently!

Hadn't properly clocked that we will be losing Mo and Sadio to this. Shame they don't get a rest.

@ LTW - which 2?

Tau's a lovely little player. Wonderful left foot. Was voted player of the year in Belgium this season

We've actually got a decent squad this time around...not sure how they're going to perform though. It's been ages since we've qualified for a tournament without being the hosts

Erasmus & Furman ... I read up on the two 'waiting for passport kids' - seems interesting. Tbh, they should be looking for these ops just like the English cricket team look to pinch all our cricket players! :-D

Will look into Tau.

He's currently on loan from Brighton.
Wonder if their new coach will give him a chance in the EPL next season. Can't be any worse than some of their forwards this season.

Haris Belkebla axed from Algeria’s Africa Cup of Nations squad… for flashing his bum on Fortnite live stream

Haris Belkebla has blown his chance of representing Algeria at the Africa Cup of Nations as the midfielder was sent home a week before the tournament starts in bizarre circumstances.

The 25-year-old incredibly flashed his bum on a Fortnite live stream to thousands of viewers.

Algeria’s substitute goalkeeper Alexandre Oukidja was playing the popular game and was broadcasting his match on streaming platform Twitch.

Belkebla pulled down his trousers in the background and showed off his backside, as can be seen in the above image.

Algeria manager Djamel Belmadi axed the midfielder from his 23-man squad once he found out about the incident.

He has since been replaced by Mohamed Benkhemassa.

Belkebla has never represented Algeria before and it was the first time he had been called up to the senior national team.

He had even performed in an initiation ceremony after joining up with the squad.

He had previously played for his country at the 2016 Olympics and for the Under-23s.

The 25-year-old currently plays for Brest and helped them finish second in Ligue 2 to get promoted back to the French top flight for the first time in six years.

[article]Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita has been named in Guinea's final 23-man squad for this month's Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt despite admitting that he is "not yet fully fit to play."

The 24-year-old is still recovering from a thigh injury he sustained at Barcelona in the European Champions League semi-final on 1 May.

He was the last player to arrive at the Syli National camp in Marrakech on Monday night and did not feature in their 1-0 defeat to Benin in a Nations Cup warm-up match the following day.

Keita said he hoped to be fit for Guinea's Nations Cup opening Group B match against Madagascar on 22 June.

"I am not 100%," Keita admitted in a television interview on the Guinea Football Federation Facebook page, just after he arrived in Morocco.

"But when I was in Liverpool, I started training with the ball. As I'm here now I'm going to train with the team to see.

"I want to reassure the Guinean fans, the coach and my teammates that I think I'll be ready for the first match."

Keita was not fit to play in the Champions League final against Tottenham on 1 June which Liverpool won 2-0 to be crowned European champions.

Guinea will play their last warm-up match against Nations Cup hosts Egypt on Sunday in Alexandria but it is not yet known if Keita will take part.

The Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp had initially said Keita would be out of action for two months just after he picked up the injury but later also revealed the player was ahead of schedule in his recovery process.

Two locally-based players from the 25-man provisional list - midfielder Abdoulaye Paye Camara and goalkeeper Moussa Camara - both with Guinean giants Horoya, were the only players dropped by the Syli National coach Paul Put.

Other notable players included in the list are Bordeaux striker Francois Kamano, Napoli midfielder Amadou Diawara and the Syli National skipper Ibrahima Traore who plays for Borussia Monchengladbach.

Three players with dual nationality, called up for the first time, also made the cut. They are France-born Brentford defender Julian Jeanvier, former French youth international Fode Koita and Mikael Dyrestam who has featured in two friendly internationals for Sweden's national team.

Two players who committed their international future to Guinea during the 2019 Nations Cup qualifiers, Simon Falette and Ernest Boka Seka, are also set to feature in their first Africa Cup of Nations finals.

After their opening game with Madagascar, Guinea will face Nigeria on 26 June and will wrap up their group campaign with a match against Burundi four days later.

Guinea squad:

Goalkeepers: Naby Yattara (Excelsior, Reunion Island), Ibrahima Koné (Pau, France), Aly Kéita (Ostersunds, Sweden)

Defenders: Fodé Camara (Gazélec Ajaccio, France), Issiaga Sylla (Toulouse FC, France), Ernest Seka (Nancy, France), Simon Falette (Eintracht Frankfurt, Germany), Ousmane Sidibé (Béziers, France), Baissama Sankoh (Caen, France), Mikael Dyrestam (AO Xanthi FC, Greece), Julian Jeanvier (Brendford, England)

Midfielders: Amadou Diawara (Napoli, Italy), Ibrahima Cissé (Fulham, England), Boubacar Fofana (Gaz Metan, Romania), Naby Keita (Liverpool, England), Mady Camara (Olympiakos, Greece)

Forwards: François Kamano (Bordeaux, France), Mohamed Yattara (Auxerre, France), Ibrahima Traoré (Borussia M'Gladbach, Germany), José Kanté (Gimnastic Tarragona, Spain), Idrissa Sylla (Zulte Waregem, Belgium), Fodé Koita (Kasimpasa, Turkey), Sory Kaba (Dijon ,France)

"I've heard many reasons for players missing major tournaments but this is new".

AFCON isn't a major tournament, nobody gives a fuck

[article]Liverpool superstar Sadio Mane has been struck with a blow after picking up a suspension for Senegal's opening match in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Senegal coach Aliou Cisse confirmed that the Senegalese will miss the opening fixture against Tanzania after picking up two yellow cards in the earlier AFCON qualifiers.

The 27-year-old winger was booked in Senegal's away win to Equatorial Guinea in November last year and also in their 2-0 victory over Madagascar on March 23.

The Liverpool superstar will sit out the Teranga Lions' inaugural Group C fixture on June 23 but will be available for the showdown with Algeria on June 27 and their final group-stage clash against Kenya on July 1.

However, Senegal head coach Cisse believes the team will remain strong despite the absence of the star in their first tie.

"His absence should not in any way bother us," Cisse said.

"Certainly the presence of Sadio is beneficial but without him, we remain strong,”

"CAF have decided, so we will not linger [on the subject],”

"Certainly, with Sadio we would be very good, but even without him we will be very good,”

“We all know that Sadio will have a good Nations Cup [but] the players around him have to raise their level. That's how we'll get there."

Cisse also expressed his discontent on the suspension pointing out that the bookings in qualifiers should not be carried on to the main tournament.

"If we received a card in the qualifying round, I do not see the value of counting it during the final phase of the AFCON,” Cisse said.

“CAF has decided that but we will prove that Senegal exists without Mane," the Senegalese added.

Mane missed the decisive penalty Senegal’s quarterfinal shootout defeat to Cameroon in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations as Cameroon goalkeeper Fabrice Ondoa saved his spot kick.

The Liverpool star will now be keen in Egypt after savouring a magnificent season with the Reds netting 22 Premier League goals and leading his side to a Champions League triumph.

Mane joined the Teranga Lions training camp in Spain on Thursday before departing for Egypt with the team on Friday.

Even they don’t care. The attendance for Morocco vs Namibia was about 27. And the match was shite.
