6 Nations 2015

Starts tonight, I think it could be a fairly open tournament.

If Sexton is back quickly I fancy Ireland though

I'm looking forward to this. Not sure how Ireland will fare, they're being billed as favourites but that never suits us.

Yeah, England will be there or thereabouts. I can't predict France or Wales at the moment.

Some interesting comments on BBC about the Scots.
They seem to think the new coach has turned them around and they'll cause upsets.

Looking forward to this first game, a Friday night in Cardiff is about as tough an atmosphere you'll get for an away side.

Clever move off the line-out there, cross kick and then halfpenny kicks. England knock on

Brilliant by Faletau, the scrum was a disaster and he took at and put Webb over.

Haskell should be shot

The fight back begins. That move looked like it was going nowhere until Browns grubber, well scooped by the winger

England win.

Think that makes them favourites now. Although they have to go to Dublin this year and taking the mantle of favourites might help Ireland. Can't wait until tomorrow's matches.

That was fantastic! Our own @Spionkop69 was there the lucky bugger. I might try and snaffle a ticket for the Dublin game. That would be aces! 😎

If we can do that to the Welsh on their own onion patch with half our reserves playing, we could have prospects this year. 😎

Not a great start to this game. 3-0 after 20 to us. Messy game.

Keatley has been very mixed, the pack are doing okay though

26- 3.

A sensible if uninspiring performance. Looking to put the Italians under pressure and benefit from mistakes that never really came until the yellow card. Madigans introduction turned the screw during the sin bin.

Its worth noting there was no Healy, Heaslip, O'brien, Sexton

England really do have a load of strength in depth, missing half of arguably their strongest side, yet still look a good side.

I'm going for a bold early world cup prediction and say that the final will be contested by two northern hemisphere teams.

I doubt that TBH mate. My money'd be on the Blacks getting there, though their opponents may well be from this neck of the woods.

Yeah they are the only team that seems a cut slightly above rest, but they have a pretty shocking record (by their standards) at world cups outside of nz. I could easily see the aussies going out at the group stage and the south Africans look a pale shadow of their former selves.

With the Irish, Welsh, English and French taking southern hemisphere scalps on the recent tours, I really wouldn't be surprised to see them take that confidence into the world cup and as a result see a all northern hemp final.

We just need the French team that is capable of beating the All Blacks to turn up then disappear again in the next round.

England rightly favourites for me. Ireland are very strong, and have (by a stretch) the best tactical kicking in the tournament, but we're missing the spark in the backline. We're struggling to score tries, and I don't think we'll get much change out of England in that department. I know they shipped a few against Italy, but they were ferocious defensively against Wales. Wales seemed to be completely sapped running into that white wall again and again until they had nothing left.

Not that it's exactly going out on a limb, but I do think the winners of England-v-Ireland will win the 6 Nations and the Grand Slam may be on for them.

It's in Lansdowne road this year, hopefully that'll swing it to our advantage.

Hopefully, but this England team, as they demonstrated in Wales, won't be the slightest bit intimidated by occasion. Last season's game at Twickenham was a fantastically tense and hard fought game, that could have gone either way. This match will be no different.

That was against Wales though, they gave in against the English a lot easier than what we did [emoji6]

Looking forward to this weekends game, i think it's still to early to say a grand slam is on for either side.

I like that there's a bit of a role reversal between the teams with Ireland playing a very conservative albeit inventive kicking game and using the dominant pack to force mistakes from the opposition in key territory.

Whereas England now have a real danger man in the centre in Joseph who can carve up opposition and make opportunities for those around him. Mike Brown might be back for England too.

Good summary. Very finely balanced, this one. I agree with what you identify as the strengths on each side, but the rest of each team is strong as well - England's pack and your back line can each cause plenty of problems too.

It's certainly too early for a totally confident Grand Slam prediction, but I'd say the chances of one of these two sides doing it were good enough for a bet.

I think we're lacking some penetration through the centre myself which means we're a bit lateral in possession when we move the ball. Henshaw and Payne haven't really shown themselves as attacking threats at this level yet.

I'm not a big Zebo fan either, he's more of a broken play / sevens type player and he doesn't seem to fit into this Irish team easily.

There's nothing wrong with the English pack - there rarely is but I think the Irish pack is the most physical and well organised Irish pack that I've ever seen. And theres a lot of depth too.

I'd take a good chunk of that English backline over ours - particularly the centres.

I like to think our tactics are us deliberately keeping things very plain and boring before the World Cup and we'll see some more wrinkles added to the gameplan at that time.
Schmidt is a superb coach and some of the set plays he comes up with (and the execution of them) are simply amazing. There was one in the last game where off a line-out there was a planned three phase move designed to drag a winger out of place to give Sexton a gap to hit with a kick down the line. The game is so fucking advanced now it's incredible.
