Aussie Rules in Ireland

I feel a bit embarrassed posting this, but I did say I'd do what I could to help him. Feel free to ignore.

My lad (n ow 23) developed a passion for Aussie Rules while at college in Belfast. After just a couple of years in the sport, he has been selected to the Irish squad for an international tournament in Canada (no Aussies invited so everyone has a chance 🙂). He has already represented Norn Iron in a 7 a side (I think) tournament, but this is the real thing. It's a great achievement in his proud dad's eyes, even though there probably aren't that many Aussie Rules players in the country to choose fro.

Of course, being a minority sport, there is zero funding available - he has to pay for his own kit, flights, accommodation etc. He is working, but as a junior trainee accountant is still on a fairly low salary. To try & help cover the costs he has set up a Go Fund Me, I am posting the link here - as I say, feel free to ignore that part, but feel free to bolster his dad's pride anyway 🙂

I know this is a bit of a monologue, but I am convinced there are lurkers in here who really care. Jason & the Irish team just beat Great Britain in the semi to make it to the final, where they will most likely face USA (unless the Canadians pull off an upset in the other semi).

Well - the Ireland team are Transatlantic Champions, beating USA in the final after a thrilling semi final win over GB. The girls team also won, so it was an Irish double

My lad is the patriot with the Tricolour and the Clare flag, third from the right on the front row. He also made "team of the tournament"
