He's not as thick as he looks.

His face rubbing is oddly mesmerizing
He's no different to most of the managers in the world - mediocre
It beggars belief that he landed those high profile positions despite having the most obvious loser's mentality I've seen in football
One of the only positives from Budgie's abortive reign as Liverpool manager, was the array of memes and gifs that he helped create.
Face-rub was one, and I also find that photo (later animated) of Hodgson and Lee, faces contorted like gargoyles as they celebrated by jumping out of the dugout, very hypnotic.
Hodgson is a classic example, one of the best I've ever seen, of the theory that at work people tend to get promoted to the level of their own incompetence. He's actually done OK making something of middle-ranking sides, but when he's stepped up to the top level (Blackburn - who were champions at the time, lest we forget - then LFC and finally England) he's fallen on his @rse. It's just a pity he applied for the job when we were just coming out of the darkest period in the club's history and there wasn't a whole lot of competition to come here.
Yeah, there was that quote along the lines of how he can make a mediocre player/ team better, but makes good players and teams worse

He's one of the biggest cunts ever in football, and to think he was ever associated with our club is a disgrace. The lowest point in our existence since we came up under Shanks.
And here's me thinking my dislike of him was irrational
