England and Sunderland player Adam Johnson has been arrested on suspicion of having sex with a girl under 16, according to Sky sources.

The Premier League club announced he had been suspended pending the outcome of a police investigation.
The 27-year-old winger was detained at his home earlier in the day and Durham Constabulary said he remains in police custody.
He is helping officers with their inquiries, the force added.
Born in Sunderland, Johnson cost the club £10m when he joined in 2012 and he has scored 17 goals for them.

Johnson has represented England 12 times
He has represented his country 12 times and has also played for Middlesbrough and Manchester City.
In a statement, Durham police said: "A 27-year-old man was arrested earlier today on suspicion of sexual activity with a girl under 16.
"He remains in police custody and is helping officers with their inquiries."
 
The only way for him to save his reputation is if he can somehow implicate EBJT in this.

A bit harsh until we know the circumstances.

When I was 18 I met a girl in Streets (a bar in Liverpool) & was all over her. Was ready to bring her back to mine until her mate told my mate that she was 16 & her mate wasn't 16 for another few weeks. She looked 18/19 & there's no way I'd have thought of asking.

I used to take girls home from town at least once a weekend for a good few years so I've no idea if they were all definitely over 16, as most looked around 18, & I'm pretty sure most lads on here couldn't give that guarantee either.

I'd normally assume the police have proof he knew she was under 16 & that fact actually matters, but fuck knows when a celebrity is involved.
 
That's a fair point.

I suppose there are fine lines between child abuse and a case like this. It's always been somewhat of a 'zero tolerance' subject for me though.
 
I hate that when it comes to anything around these sort of taboo subjects someone is assumed guilty by the entire public just because there's been an allegation, it must be pretty stressful being someone with any level of fame.

This sort of thing is a unforgivable for a 27 year old
 
There isn't just an allegation.

There's an arrest too, and he's been suspended by his club
