He wasn't simply the best defender of his generation, he was amoung the best pure footballers of his generation. Somebody used the word "majestic" above... Perfect summary for Jockey. He bestrode the world like a Colossus... I loved the interview with Howard Kendal a million years ago, when he said that when he planned to stop Liverpool, he didn't focus on Kenny or Rushie or any of the midfielders - His plan to stop us began with stopping Jockey brining it out of the defense. On a team with the legendary names we posessed back then, that really says it all, doesn't it.
We simply haven't seen his like since, and probably will not again. In a culture that ues words like "great" and legendary" all to easily, he is all of those thing, and more.
