LIVERPOOL want Barcelona’s Alexis Sanchez in an £18million deal as they build up their squad for a return to the Champions League.

Kop boss Brendan Rodgers is already chasing Southampton’s England talent Adam Lallana.
And now Liverpool – like Arsenal – have been told Sanchez wants to quit Barca because he wants more starts.
A deal won’t be done, though, until Sanchez, 25, has played for Chile at the World Cup.

He cost Barca £25million when he moved from Udinese and earns £90k-a-week at the Nou Camp.
Sanchez, who can operate either as a striker or on the wing, gave an eye catching performance when Chile defeated England at Wembley in November.
He scored both goals in Chile’s 2-0 win.
The arrival of Sanchez could see the departure of Italian Fabio Borini, who has just returned to Liverpool after being on loan to Sunderland last season.

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet wants him back and a £8m bid for the Italian, 23, is expected.
But Rodgers told the Daily Star Sunday that no offer had been made yet.

I think 18 million for Sanchez would be great ... He is a hard working AM/ST, has an eye for goal, and plays for his team. Had he played the whole year - when he was clearly far more on form than Neymar - Barca would have won something. A player like him can only improve us.
 
Didnt they pay 25-30 mill? With Tata leaving he'll probably await whoever comes in first.
 
Sanchez is a no brainer even if it was £25m. He is proper quality. Only problem is this story originated in the Daily Star so you know its made up shit.
 
He won't have to replace anyone on a regular basis though. With the formation we play and the increased number of games on our schedule, there'll be not only room but a positive need for three quality front players. Signing Sanchez needn't even mean bye-bye Borini, because there'll still be the need for back-up, though (*if* Rodgers is quoted accurately in that article above) it doesn't sound like we'd turn down an £8 mill.bid.
 
Sanchez could be the signing of the Summer. When Sterling spears the midfield, we play two up top, or he'll play wide right of a three. So between the four attacking positions we have:

Coutinho
Sterling
Suarez
Sturridge
Lallana
Borini

and then Ibe who looks like he could be an understudy to Sterling now. So we could probably do with another big player then to complete the set, two players for each position, with a few of them having the ability to play a couple of different roles. Sanchez would be a brilliant buy.
 
I would love to sign this lad, but can't see it happening! New Barca manager and all could change things.

8m for Borini? Good stuff.
 
I don't think £8m is enough.How much did we pay - about £10.5m? Since then he's come back into form on loan, scored some high profile goals, including one in a Wembley final against the eventual champions, and won plenty of praise from Poyet and others as a very good young prospect, so I'd rather keep him for another year if we can't at least get our money back. As for Sanchez - yes please!
 
Sanchez would be pretty much the perfect player as the extra striker/wide forward we need. One of the few out there who'd mean I'd be happy to sign just one player in attack as opposed to two, because he'd really have to start.

On the other hand, you could argue that the loan to Sunderland has restored his value to somewhere close to what we paid for him. If we brought him back and he didn't play much, there's a risk of him losing that value again.

I think if we got an 8 million offer, I'd be inclined to sell.
 
Yeah, I can't see us getting what we've paid. Him doing well at a leseer club doesn't signify he's improved on the initial investment, it shows that we couldn't afford him a place in our squad, and shipped him out to a lesser side where he's done well. I think £8m-£10M is probably about right. Given his age I reckon whoever buy him will get him for say, £5m plus incentives making up the rest.
 
Fans are always happy to pay a fortune for new players whilst bombing out existing ones for next to nothing, but it's not rational. There's growing demand for him. It's not as if he's Aspas. We need to be much tougher at selling players, especially as other clubs are getting much tougher at selling players to us at over the odds prices. We can't just wave the hand and let players go at a loss without much resistance. It's all part of how clubs manage their finances.

I'm not happy to Macca, I just don't see anyone valuing him any higher (I do like Borini btw).

Yep.. we've done well on some outgoing transfers since Rafa's days though, tbf. The whole Carroll debacle was hopefully just an isolated case of insanity.
 
This talk of him wanting to leave to get more playing time is surely bollocks though. He played in 54 games this season, starting 38 of them. He's hardly going to get more playing time than that any top club, where he'll be one of at least 3 attacking options.

Perhaps there is a case of him not getting along too well with Tata, but if that's the case, he'd be better of waiting and seeing whether Barca retain Tata rather than jumping ship the first chance he gets.
 
The problem for Barca is they need to sell to strengthen their back line and keeper.
So there will be outtages.

I'm not sure how reliable transfermarkt's info is, but they have a good collection of transfer and loan fees, contract expiry dates, loan options, etc. so I use it as my primary source of reference for trade values.

Anyway, Borini fee was reported as £11.7m there. Also, the site says that Sunderland paid us £1.58m for his services this season. That was one of our better loan transactions I reckon.
