Szobo is Patrick Berger for the modern age. A pure Match of the Day player. Plays well for 5 minutes a game and they're the bits that end up on the telly on BBC1 at half 10.
Works a lot harder than Berger did though. Which is incredibly important to our game.
But yes he can do a lot better with the ball a lot of the time and should be looking to improve on that aspect.
I wish he'd shoot the ball as often as Berger did.
Caicedo had a rough start but he's since proved what a superb DM he is - and why we were willing to pay £110m for him.

Would it be worthwhile to move Macca forward, move gravy to maccas position and get in a new 6?

I'd welcome it and reckon it could help him play better still. The fact that he's done so well playing further back, which he hadn't been doing that much before signing for us, is testament to his professionalism.
That's my thoughts. Feel like maccas creativity is stifled slightly being further back, but gravys are completely being ignored.
Would not want Gravy playing anywhere other than a 6. His passing is way too limited. Macca's also very good in his current position. Our issue is with Sobo not stepping up this season. 'A' for effort from Sobo but his final delivery, or even his general careless passing have not been great.
Macca gets to control play more in his current position than playing further up, and frankly I don't think he'd be good enough if played further forward. Sobo and Jones, though far from being perfect, will likely play in that role next season. Still young enough to improve.

We'll definitely have to agree to differ over Macca's ability to play further forward. It's what prompted us to sign him in the first place.
Grav is showing what Slot wants at six, and I think replicating that will be difficult. We initially looked at Zubimendi but concluded there’s no one else in Europe worth pursuing. Given this, I think the best option is to leave Grav as he is, use Szobo for more of the donkey work, and push Macca further forward as a more creative outlet. However, I would still welcome the arrival of a more creative player to replace Elliott, if he is to leave. While I think Macca can produce more in terms of numbers, he has been such a versatile midfielder over the years that I wouldn’t expect that spark to ignite straight away.
A downside of moving Szobo further back is we lose some pressing higher up the park. He's often the leading the press in a 4-2-4 so it's one for Slot to weigh up. Against better sides we may well still need this, but against weaker sides, sitting back, Szobo just isn't impactful or dynamic often enough. Jones has been playing with more attacking freedom and impact for a while now.
I don't want to overstate it, though. There's room for improvement, but this is a title winning midfield that needs a few tweaks here and there rather than wholesales changes, IMO.

I think we said a while back that one of the big pluses with Bajcetic - if he works out - is that he'll give us the option of playing a double pivot with Grav and that then gives us the option of playing MacAllister further forward.
That is a system I'd be really interested in seeing. Baj and Grav are both very comfortable on the ball and can get forward interchangeably and MacAllister is freed up from having to play as a Szobo style #8, which if I don't think he has the stamina for.
Absolutely. He chose the 10 shirt for a reason. Playing him in the middle was an improvisation that doesn't need to continue.
