Alonso has been sold!

What an abortion of a thread.

Anyways, to echo Anita's sentiments... I'm really gutted about him going and I don't care how much money we got (although 30M if that is not reliant on anything is decent).

The Guardian:

something to annoy Rage -

"Rafael Benítez secured a bittersweet victory over Real Madrid tonight when the Spanish club met his £30m demand for Xabi Alonso and took their summer spending spree through the £200m barrier.

Alonso will undergo a medical in the Spanish capital tomorrow after Real finally relented over an asking price that Benítez had steadfastly refused to lower all summer. The 27-year-old is expected to sign a four-year contract at the Bernabéu worth £3.8m a year after tax"

and something to annoy Anita -

"a package that was agreed in principle between Real and Alonso several months ago and prompted the Spain international to tell Benítez that he wished to end a successful five-year stay on Merseyside."

i reckon it will end up being 30 mill if the add ons are payed. which is a bit shit, IF TRUE.

You reckon that, do you? Hmmm.

just a hunch.

Some posters at school:

TEACHER: '2 and 2 equals...?
RAGE: '3'.
TEACHER: 'No, 4'.
RAGE: 'So you say. I think you'll find it will end up as 3, or possibly 2. Or one and a half.'
TEACHER: 'Oh god, I can't take it. I've got to put the 'CAPS' button back on the computers anyway, thanks to you. Go home - it's tea time!'
RAGE: 'Nope. I think you'll find it's mid-afternoon'.

I'll hate him by the time the parade him. But then I'll love him again by the summer when he plays for Spain.

He might fail the medical yet...

I was just thinking that as they said it on SSN, then I realised it was the denial coming back, so I shut that shizzle down.

What's the payment structure? Do we get the 30M up front?
that would put an end to the ambiguity regarding what the add ons amount to for a start.

I don't think we should sell Gerrard at any price, Flanders.
Why not? Sell high, buy cheap. We're running a business here.
but we didn't buy gerrard, you fucking idiot.
You fucking gormless cunt.

Localny (or someone) said "we would have to sell Alonso one day, so sell him now whilst we can get the most money"
I'm making the point that we are about winning trophies not being run as a business, otherwise you could take it to it's ultimate conclusion and make the biggest profit buy selling Gerrard. Cost Nil Sell £45M+

Do you get it? Of course I don't want to sell Gerrard, Torres and didn't want to sell Alonso. Understand. I hope you aren't indicative of the poster on this forum because i hate explaining myself.
Mate, I know you don't want to sell Gerrard, and it's not just about business.

But you're not listening or reading what I am saying...

Xabi, being spanish would be going back to Spain anyway, and we'd have to find a new play-maker in one or two seasons, so let's cash in now. Get some decent money for him, so we can cover that eventual gap that will need to be filled. He's a 28 year old that has given us five years of service, and we've sold for three times we bought. Amazing piece of business.

You can't win trophies unless you run a good football business.

He's completely replaceable at 30M. I don't know enough about European Ball to see who can replace, but it's not a bad deal for us all, sentiment aside.

Wouldn't sell Gerrard for 100M, of course.

So it is a business, but of course there's a line.

if i'd listened to the majority of my teachers i'd not have had the chance to do the things i've done so i'll take that as a compliment. 😉

call it artistic license regarding the lack of capital letters. the full stops are still there and whilst english is my second language i'm sure you can understand what i'm writing. admittedly sometimes you'd rather not understood what i'd written.

The Times are saying it's 35M sterlingo. He'll have cost more than thin Ronaldo soon enough.

i look forward to doing the maths at the end of this window. it is seeming more and more likely that, rather than a transfer kitty, we will be making a profit this summer.

So once we have sold off Arbeloa and Dossenna as well as Xabi we should easily have covered our loan interest payment for the year and probably more or less paid for Johnson as well into the bargain hopefully. Tbh im a bit gutted to see Xabi going, i was hoing we would oly be selling Voronin and some shite. In fact im especially gutted we sold him to a direct competitor considering his quality and proven adaptation, he was a bit of a leader as well at times last season.... sad to see him leave....

But it does mean we have got out truly star players for at least one more season.

That was £11M wasn't it? Followed by Sissoko for about €11M?
