Am I Legend ?

This is inspired by a remark made about Michael Owen in another thread.

Due to a perceived "betrayal" by him his legendary status has been "revoked".

Mark Lawrenson is another ex-red who played at Anfield for a long time, was pivotal in our sucess but is disliked by many fans.

Others, such as John Aldridge or Gary Mac, were here for a short time but are exhalted.

So, to kick off are;

Michael Owen
Mark Lawrenson
John Aldridge
Gary Mac
Didi Haman
John Arne Riise
Xabi Alonso

I think history will be kinder to Michael Owen

When all's said and done he still scored a ridiculous amount of goals and carried our team from a young age; however he'll be regarded as an England legend, never a Liverpool one.

The word is thrown about too cheaply these days. Hyypia, Carragher and Gerrard certainly are, and possibly Didi, too.

Reina also has the potential to write himself in

I don't class any of the strike-thru's as 'legends' but defo honourable mentions for Gary Mac's goal against the Bitters, Riise's very far and few between wonder goals (see Barca), and Xabi for efforts in the champions league final and the halfway-line goals. Not legends though.

John Aldridge - definately
Gary Mac - hmm I'm going to say no although his contribution in 2001 was incredible
Didi Haman - I'm going to say no although his contribution in the CL final was incredible
John Arne Riise - ha ha...wait, ha ha ha, right I've got my breath back...no I haven't ha ha ha!
Xabi Alonso - no

I wouldn't have Riise as an LFC legend.

All the other yes they are. Bar Michael Owen who was a legend to me, but is now just a traitorous, mercenary, Welsh midget.

Robbie Fowler - Simply GOD
Didi Hamman - Unsung hero for years and Istanbul
Sami Hyppia - Tower of Finnish awesomeness
Gary Mac - 35.....35..... utter brilliance, penalty against Barca, 45yard free kick in the derby, 3 assists and a goal in the UEFA Cup Final
Jamie Carragher - Once again, unsung hero for years, square peg in a round hole until recently, he is LFC
Steven Gerrard - No explanation needed

That he did, but he had the grace to apologise. He was also recovering from his heart op at the time, so his judgment - which admittedly wasn't always great anyhow - may not have been at its best.

Beardsley was one of my favourite players however was shown the door prematurely by Souey and going to Everton doesn't help his cause. He should be regarded as a Newcastle legend.

Michael Owen will always be remembered as a liverpool legend. If the question was "do the fans like him?", then the answer is probably no for most people on this forum.

You can't just delete the goals he scored, and the good memories that kept you at the edge of your seat for near 10 years. He will be remembered, but it will be bitter-sweet for some and just bitter for some others.....he will be remembered all the same. Fans will talk about him for many years.

Not in my book, though Beardsley was good enough to have become one but - wrongly, in my view - was sold too early in his LFC career. McMahon was good too, but not quite that good. Staunton was a decent club servant but no more than that. McMoneyman was an immensely fit and talented player but ultimately turned out a waster and a cheat.

Owen will not be remembered as a Liverpool legend by me and he fucked off to win things after seven years which is considerably short of 10.

Kenny Dalglish is a genuine Liverpool legend because of his playing career and because of his character as a man. Poor old Mikey just doesn't stack up very well in comparison, I'm afraid.
