He took the Premiership by storm in his first ten games and then the shit hit the fan.

Given we were on a tight budget, and needing a striker who's strong and capable of leading the line for around the £10M mark - although obviously this money never materialised - it wasn't a bad suggestion. I'd sooner bring in a talented but mental player than an average 'get what you pay for' squaddie.

Nah, in this particular case, I think you're wrong Squiggs. Given that he's 26 and spent most of his playing career in Egypt, I don't think a decent 10 game spell in the Prem is evidence enough to support a 10M bid.

To take that sort of risk, you have to really be taking about the sort of talent and potential a player like Cassano has.
 
I know but it's just the punt you sometimes take on these kind of players. We did it with Bellamy and it never really worked out, although that bid was more credible, admittedly.

Now he's the star performer whilst surrounded by hundreds of million pounds worth of talent at City.

Villa has a £12M bid rejected for Zaki in January - it was only then I knew he wouldn't be worth what we were expected to pay. Bent was the man to go for.
