Was just thinking, wonder where Harvey Is at, and would he be in plans for Benfica, maybe? He had seemed to lose some rhythm previously ..still have high hopes for him

While Jurgen Klopp oversaw the first team at Anfield, Harvey Elliott notched an assist with the under-23s in a 2-2 draw against Chelsea just a stone’s throw away.

Since returning from his horror ankle injury, Elliott’s appearances for the first team have been sporadic in the midst of the best squad depth Klopp has had at his disposal.
It spoke volumes that Elliott nor Divock Origi, Takumi Minamino and the injured Naby Keita did not make the Anfield fixture, while Fabinho, Luis Diaz and Sadio Mane all were on the bench.
Elliott has 271 first-team minutes to his name since his return, but on Saturday the 18-year-old was part of a strong Barry Lewtas side that included Tyler Morton, Conor Bradley and Leighton Clarkson.
And in his first appearance in the youth setup since February 2020, he commemorated it with an assist for James Norris after just 23 minutes, as the young Reds made good of their early dominance.

Let's be honest, he hasn't been performing that great since the Cardiff game.
I think Harvey needs time to get back to his best.
We're going through a tough stretch and we need our big boys for this. Klopp will be relying on Fabs, Thiago, Hendo, Keita and Milner. Then there's Jones and Elliott.
Oh and Ox.

Yeh would agree about his performance and defo we want the big boys. Hope he comes up to speed soon and gets his Mo jo back quickly. Good to see he’s getting games giving him chance to get back at it fully !

Elliott started off so well when he did come back that I wondered if he'd be able to keep it up, so a partial slowdown now isn't a surprise IMO. I'm still confident he's going to be a star and grace the red shirt for years to come.

There's no pressure on him to perform. Give him minutes when we can and let him develop. Fan's won't get on his back either because of his age and the injury.

Yeh agree…it was a bad injury and he does need time..like him a lot and feel he will be great given that time…he came back real quick after the injury ..good to see he’s played and got an assist 😀

Harvey wasn’t in the squad for Watford, right? It looks like Klopp has decided to go with more experienced options in the decisive part of the season and that includes Curtis Jones who is now clearly ahead of Elliott in the pecking order despite not playing brilliantly himself.

It’s a bit like Tsimikas situation last season - a player needs consistent minutes to build up form after injury, but the manager can’t afford to give minutes to a player who is not already on top of his game. So Harvey will probably have to wait until next season to get a genuine chance.

Yeh, hopefully next season he will play a role 😀 nice to see him playing in the U23s getting game time

He was in sparkling form before his injury, but has not hit them heights since his return. I'm sure he still has a role to play this season, but it won't be a defining one.

The opportunity to use 5 subs next season is great for all young players in the league, and Elliott and Jones will likely see their minutes increase as a result.
