Liverpool fans will remember only too well how crap Andriy Voronin was during his time at Anfield, and he hasn’t got any better since if this woeful miss is anything to go by.
Despite being unable to hit a cow’s arse with a banjo during his time on Merseyside, Voronin is something of an institution with the Ukrainian national team and will more than likely add to his 70+ caps during Euro 2012.
Then again, maybe he won’t, certainly not if his manager has a good look back at his open goal miss during Ukraine’s 4-0 win over Estonia last night.
Voronin did actually manage to get on the scoresheet during the game, but it is not the goal that will live longest in the memory, rather a horrendous miss from three yards out when he didn’t even have the ‘keeper to beat.
What’s worse is that he had loads of time to slot the rebounded shot to the net and although the ball was bouncing, his effort didn’t even go near the goal, not even close.
For a man that’s missed so many chances over the years, Voronin looked particularly horrified afterwards, but the reaction of the Ukrainian bench was priceless, with the boss casting a look towards his assistants as if to say ‘There’s no way that guy is getting a game’.
The video above will bring back painful memories for the Liverpool fans; the rest of you can feel free to laugh at his sheer ineptitude, which may well be repeated at the Euros in a couple of weeks time.
