Antoine Semenyo

£65m sounds like a fair deal but what does this say about slot, salah and maybe even gakpo?

if he’s exclusively going to play right wing you’d assume mo leaves very swiftly after he arrives.

i don’t know a lot about him but google says he’s right footed, does he play on the left much? is he actually being looked at with the left in mind or as the guy who can play either side?

we’ve just spunked so much money on two 9’s and a 10 i think a lot of us were starting to assume slot had a grander scheme in mind. what does going big for a winger say about that if anything?

We aren’t going to get Olise unless Isak money now, 65m with a release clause for PL proven player isn’t bad. Wish we got Eze in midfield too, anyway we need a trick pacy strong winger.

He's very two footed.

He plays RW for Bournemouth, as well as LW. Plays as a SS and a 10 as well. Can play on the outside or come inside.

Super versatile.

I think he's perfect for us, as we have a manager who can't decide how he wants his team to play and may not be long for this league.

I doubt weve got the money for him. Seems something arsenal would do as their left side is shite unless Eze is out of position

Semenyo makes sense in that he's versatile, fast, strong and two-footed. I think we probably would have waited until the summer to sign another wide forward had Salah and Gakpo's form not disappeared off a cliff.

I think we thought Salah would be good for the 2 season renewal - we have found out he will need replacing next Summer.

There's a line of thought that says this is the Guehi money, so we're not getting him in Jan and we're freeing up money in next year's budget by signing him on a free. Makes financial sense but it's nonsense from a footballing perspective as we need another CB, and Guehi has shown his ability to continue to perform to a high standard despite off-field distractions, which can't be said for Ibou.
I like Semenyo, and I'd like to see him in our team, but I'm still nervous at how much cash we're splashing, especially when we're struggling to accommodate the players we've already signed.
I mentioned elsewhere that there was talk this time last year that we'd come to an agreement with out insurers over covid business disruption claims and it's possible that money is funding this spree, but I've no idea how much it was - it should come out at the end of February when the accounts are published. The rumours were that some other clubs had settled in (low) single-digit millions but we and Arsenal were prepared to sue, before reaching a settlement near to the court date. And which two teams were the biggest spenders in Summer?
Also worth bearing in mind that release clauses often require payment of the fee in full, rather than by instalments. Not always the case but if it is then that would make things trickier.
