Apologies to Hughes and Slot

Maybe some teething problems in the start but I doubt it will be an issue given that we get nearly a full pre season with all the new signings.

Hughes deserves credit, but so does Slot. One of the big concerns when Klopp left was that we would be losing his ability to convince players to move to the club with his charm, proven track record, and the excitement of his football.

Slot has clearly been instrumental in convincing players to join this summer. A league title certainly has helped a lot, but it seems his ability to clearly articulate his vision to individual players has made a huge impact as well. What a summer!

Strengthening from a position where we're already strong is what the best teams do, but signing this large a number of players all at the same time is going to be quite a test for the manager, the coaches and the squad. I am NOT complaining, but might it cause us one or two issues?
Agree the that. Hopefully, any challenge is short-lived. The good news is that other than Ekitike, all the other recruits will have good existing players that can allow them to bed in, if needed. Thinking more of Kerkez and Frim. Wirst seems like he can slot in immediately, but we still have Szobo to play the 10 exactly as he did last year and that was not bad.

Keeping Virgil, Salah, Robbo, even Tsimikas and the entire midfield intact has become so important,in terms of integrating the new boys.

The ones going mostly don't speak English anyway. It'll be a challenge but it can be done.

I agree to an extent, but it’s also entirely possible, even if we go ahead and sign Isak, Rodrygo and Guehi, that only Wirtz & Usak start, with Robbo, Bradley & Gakpo also starting.

This gives Kerkez, Frimpong, Guehi, Rodrygo and Ekitike (if we signed them all) time to integrate and you’re looking at a bunch of player who, in theory are “fresher” for the business end of the season.

It’s not dissimilar to when we signed Robbo, Fabinho, Konate and arguably Jota.

I agree if we go with 5 or 6 changes to the starting XI straight away, that’s asking a lot.

I'd like to see our new sidebacks starting really. It's surely easier to integrate into those positions than central players. Kerkez in particular feels like he's ready-made for that position in our team.

I agree, but we don’t need to rush it / as I mentioned, we afforded Robbo time to settle in and he went from being an unheard of LB playing for a shit team that got relegated to one of the finest LB’s we’ve seen.

Gravy took his time to settle, etc, etc

I just feel like we don’t need to push and force the issue - we’re signing young players to play for us for the next 5-10 years.

Get the team firing and slowly integrate them.

In saying that, it’ll depend on who’s looking sharp in preseason.

Spending a shit ton all in one window, including two strikers at a historically bad time to buy might be the best choice in the circumstances, but it doesn't constitute vindication for me.

Spending less than this, a little more regularly, would have seen us have more sustained success, and we wouldn't be needing to do this now.

It also reeks of them ignoring managing something, then becoming very interested again all at once once they've got their own men back in.

There's also far more risk doing it this way.

And just to pile on the Fark's neg vibes. Caicedo. We were told he was the panacea and was worth a record transfer fee. He's average at best. Thank fuck he chose the rent an arse sanctioned clarksons of the south, otherwise we wouldn't be buying anyone this summer. But like Napoleon, I do love a lucky general.

Nah. these aren't £6m players needing to integrate having arrived from Hull or Portsmouth. They are experienced PL or BL players that have played at very high levels already.

I'm taking it you watched our FBs last season ! Kerkez and Bradders to start from Game 1

Wirtz is one of the best midfielders in the world. Were Haaland, De Bryune etc. given time? No need, even below their best they are still top class.

Ekitike maybe the only one to require 'integration' but that will depend on other transfers. Otherwise 'throw him in', he'll learn a lot faster, nothing like learning on the job.

I think you'll find he was one of the best DMs in the PL last year. He was voted Chelsea's best player of the season by both players and fans - not Palmer !

Caicedo, more than any player I've ever seen, just seems to run around the field and kick opponents (and mostly get away with it).
Kind of like a more aggressive version of Didi, but without the footballing ability.
I am supremely glad we didn't get him.

When it gets gangsta.

He's fucking shite.
I watched him closely during the last World Cup and subsequently for Brighton after we were linked with him. He never impressed too much and I figured he was worth about £30m.

When we were bidding £100m for him I was livid and very relieved when we failed to get him.

IMO he was a £30m player and hasn’t improved much since then.

The problem is what traits and attributes have financial value. High energy, availability and occasional worldies all have high value, especially in midfield.

It's the eye catching stuff that draws the money.

Personally I prefer a proactive player (Maldini, Alonso, van dijk) rather than a reactive one (caicedo, mascher, Konate).

I like caicedo, but he's not 100m player. Still feels like they got fleeced to fuck for Enzo as well

When you've come out of a football match and you didn't notice someone was on the pitch and then someone has to tell you why they were important and then tells you it's often the players that you don't notice who are doing all the hard work, that player is fucking shite and the person talking to you subscribes to the athletic and listens to the Anfield Wrap.

Admit it, you just hate Lucas and all the discussion around him has warped your perception of football 🙂

Caicedo is very good.

He is but, if I'm picking a team to play a game tomorrow to save my life, Mascher's in it whereas Caicedo's nowhere near.

Gravy is better than both of them glued together
I think Masher and Calceido were/are both better than Gravy at breaking up play, but I also think that our current midfield works more collaboratively in this aspect. Macca and Szobo are also excellent in this regard, with the same expected from Wirtz.

I felt like this - I mean going into that season a couple of years back a CB light was criminal.

Bit then we bought club record Nunez three years ago with Klopp and Lijnders sidelining the data guys and it didn't work, so I can understand the cheque book going away, especially having random, part time DoFs.

Slot sticking with his hand last season looks like genius in retrospect. He could take time identifying shortcomings and get ahead planning transfers (and powerpoints!). It is a lot at once but they all look clever signings.

Imo FSG are jumping on the USA WC bandwagon. That'll get lots more interest and investment into the sport, so being top of the pile with sensational players will see our value rocket the most.

It's their fault we had random, part time dofs though. They took their eye off the ball and now they're all interested again.
