Are you confident of a decent transfer window and signings ?

So we're a few weeks ahead of the summer transfer market and one would suspect that despite the removal of comolli, plans are being made for the summer .

With that in mind how confident are you of us having a decent window and signing some top players ?

Personally i'm not very confident at all . We can live on our name but without champions league football that wont go far in europe . We don't have a manager with a european rep like Rafa had to attract players .
So i expect we'll probably spend £20-30m if we don't sell and it will again be on the 'best of the prem' , players like Moses etc . Exciting !

I don't agree with a word of that, but I would just point out that 'best of the prem' players are more expensive than foreign imports.

so you're saying we can still attract the best of the best . You really believe that after 3 years without champ league football ?

And yeah i agree with you that the 'best of the prem ' are very expensive and not as high a quality , that's why i am not too excited at the prospect of signing them because obviously carroll , henderson , adam , downing and enrique worked out well .

oh and i should add that i don't have any confidence in kenny to sign them !

not really, but I'm 'fairly' confident the expensive players signed in the last transfer window will kick on next season.

I'm much more confident than I was given the hope that a new DoF will come in and be given responsibility over Kenny's head, so that's one thing. I'm much less confident that we'll see my dream sales of Carroll and Downing happen, though.

I live in hope. Certain sources reckoned we'd have considered it in January and not that much has changed since. But I def wouldn't bet on it!

He cant buy british again surely.... i suspect from the pronouncements made druing the sacking of Comolli we may well have a very limited budget this time round, please god we spunk ALL of it on 1 truly decent attacking player.

I think we're in for an exciting summer. New Dof and possibly some money to spend. We'll hopefully look to other leagues for better transfer targets and not inflated fees.

I do have faith in our ability to pick up a kid who will eventually mature into a star but next to no confidence that a player we pick up in the summer will be an instant hit.

I don't have a huge amount of faith. Why should anyone after last summer?

I'm hopeful however as I don't think we can get it that badly again.

That is kind off what I expect as well.
Probably Kuyt and Maxi will leave and we will pick up some one like Hoilett and another couple of young players with lots of potential, perhaps someone like Ericsson.
Probably won't improve us enough to be anything other than in a scrap for the final Champions league place next season.
It will be year two of a five year plan.

I'd be in dreamland if we got Hoilett.

I'd double, triple or even quadruple that sum to get that mofo.
The fee isn't what's important here, it's how much we'll pay him. I say pay him what Downing's earning 'cause he's evidently better.
And if I was in the FA, I'd be working on getting him a British passport. He'd walk into the English squad.

If the word from Comolli's pals is right, we can look forward to signing more British 'talent'.

Henry and Werner should just sign who they fancy. They can't honestly do a worse job than Dalglish did at it.

They need to get top class players. If they're more obsessed with age than that they'll be as culpable as anyone if the signings don't work.
