8m cheaper than Downing. Wonder how much we could sell Downing for this summer?

For the short term a definite yes but we really should be looking for younger players.

He's probably actually still quite young isn't he (despite looking like he's 40-something for years)?

He's just torn apart Barcelona over two legs, will probably be a champions league and treble winner but rather than any continuation of that with a new swashbuckling manager he should come here and get subbed off Stewart downing in the 59th minute against Cardiff?

I would quite like him here.

If we can get a younger cheaper version of him, great.

If not and our intention is to make it into the top 4 next season, why not.

His 29, his wages I have no idea of, but do know that BM his current club have very strict financial controls so I cant think they would pay him 180,000 euros basic plus bonuses.

I guess it depends what they've earmarked Carra's 90K a week (or whatever it was) for.

The 90k or so can pay the wages of 2-3 young up and coming players.

I wouldnt mind seeing Robben here. His injury record seems to have improved, and he will be fantastic in our formation. That said, is he still a cunt?

Doesn't Stewie earn 80k odd per week? He'd be an amazing replacement. That said, he ain't coming.

I still can't believe that, when Madrid were trying to bargain us down on the Alonso price, we didn't suggest swapping Sneijder and Robben for Alonso. We sold for £35m and within a couple of weeks Madrid had sold both of them for a combined total of £36m.

What a coup that would have been.

Bayen spend big and seem to get it right with their signings n recent years, Martinez looks a beast of signing.

I wonder who they have lined up for this season....

And I'd bet they get it right most of the time when they're selling players too.

He's very ball greedy. Between him and Suarez the passing rate in the final third of the pitch will drop to zero.

Yes, hes exactly the sort of player we should be looking at, world class, knows the English game, still has a few years at his best left in the tank and has proven himself at the highest levels in the game and most importantly he would instantly improve our first team.

If there is a 21 year old version of him available then lets get that fella instead but I really cant think of anybody that good who will be available at that price.

Dont worry Allen and Lucas will maintain enough sterile possession in midfield to keep the stats nerds happy, we will just have to make do with more goals upfront instead if meaningless passes, I think we could learn to live with it

Suarez is supposed to be peps number 1 target.....

Based on tabloid rumors, yes. I don't think signing him and Lewandoski, when you have Muller and Gomez up front, will be that beneficial to a team which is already heads and shoulders above any team in Germany ..

I remember someone started a thread about signing Pirlo a couple of years ago when he was out of contract and the idea was shot down in 5 minutes.
I'd have loved that little magician running our midfield.

No brainer for me. He's an excellent player and will be for the next few years. He would definitely improve us lots. He'd never come though.
