Australia V South Africa

The horrible cunt is apologising in a way that mitigates his own key role in getting a junior player to act out his scheme: "Mistakes have been made which have damaged cricket," Warner said via a statement on Twitter. "I apologise for my part and take responsibility for it."

I think that's a very lacklustre apology under the circumstances and I think he'll rightly cop flak for it. It's not "I made a huge mistake for which I am fully responsible". There was some nebulous mistake-making going on in which he has vaguely contributed according to this. Bancroft has been far more open and openly penitent.

Steve Smith, on the contrary has played a blinder. Tears, accepting full blame, signs of genuine contrition. He'll be racing back into the fold.

You're right. The tears indicate that he might not be heterosexual, but without him having to explicitly state it and receive all the abuse Kevin Spacey got. Nor can anybody else state it as it's an offensive stereotype to say he's gay because he cries. All they can do is think it to themselves, know that everyone else is probably thinking it too, and then force themselves to be seen to be sympathetic towards him. If the cunt put this much thought and planning into his cricket, he would never have had to cheat.

Michael Vaughan has no love at all for Warner does he? Ooof.

Good people make miskates.. I honestly think Steve Smith and Cam Bancroft are decent guys who had a moment of madness. They deserve a 2nd Chance...

Lehmann resigns... Too fucking right. He's a lying cunt.

But even if he was telling the truth. The players made his position untenable.

What irks me about this whole sad state of affairs is they got a fucking kid in only his 7th test match to do the dirty work. Now whether it was Bancroft who suggested or decided to go along with it one of the other 2 should have pulled him up and said no.

Warners apology is a fucking disgrace, no contrite, no regret for being the senior player and putting Bancroft through that.

The Pakistanis got more for spot fixing and Amir was put in a similar position by his captain. Warners lucky he didn't get a bigger ban, maybe the ICC will see it differently who knows?

I agree about the Smith sentiments, but a moment of madness has now tainted his career. He can come back from this but I doubt it'll ever be as captain. As RA said, you reap what you sow.

As the figurehead for the Lehmann/Warner brand of ultra aggressive cunt cricket, I haven’t had much time for Smith. At all. It would be different if he had ever been graceful in victory.

This press conference doesn’t really change that. If this goes unnoticed and they win the test, I can guarantee you he would be arrogantly laughing it up with some cunt like Lyon in *that* press conference. He wouldn’t be solemnly reflecting on how he bent over the spirit of the game.

That said, if he uses the next 12 months to quietly show up at clinics and help and inspire youngsters at grass roots level, he has paid his dues in my eyes and will have my respect

The most unforgivable thing from Smith is that in that press conference he has turned up the collar of his SUIT JACKET

It is forgivable if, like me, he was emulating Douglas Jardine / Lord Elrond from the legendary bodyline mini-series in the 80's.

163-2 so far today for SA.
Markram with his 4th century in 17 innings (not to mention 3 50s).
He's just 23 ... what an opener we've got on our hands.

It depresses me, the reaction in the UK - it's predictable but pathetic.

First is the usual overblown nonsense. As Macaulay said, 'We know no spectacle so ridiculous as the British public in one of its periodical fits of morality'.

Second, however, is the lazy move to be as contrary as possible, with endless phone-ins attracting idiots who want to claim that any bowler with sun cream or lip salve is as bad a cheat as this bunch.

And third is the supine acceptance of the professional image management phase, which is par for the course for the likes of Smith (although the image of that idiot laughing, or pretending to laugh, during the Bairstow 'head butt' fake controversy, should follow him for the rest of his life), which is obviously requiring a huge team of specialists to plan in the case of Warner.

Frankly I won't mind seeing them come back except for Warner. That bloke has always been a disgrace and he shouldn't get anywhere near the Test team ever again.

I have to say watching Warner's presser. I didn't believe him. He kept repeating himself and saying "I take full responsibility" Blah Blah Blah. Puffing his cheeks out. Crocodile tears..... Blah Blah Blah. I have no doubt he's sorry. I suspect the cheating whopper is more sorry he was caught and the lack of earning it will cost him. Harsh assessment maybe from me but he was obviously coached in the couple of days since Smith's one for that abomination of an excuse. In my mind out of the three he comes across as the worst culprit and the least sincere in his apology.

Couldn't agree more. It was a complete waste of time. Cry a bit, check, apologise to as many people as possible, check, invite questions, check, don't answer them, check.

I have a good mate of mine that has worked in PR for 20 years and she was telling me this morning it was a fucking shower of a performance. 'If you need the tears - Bring the kids into it' - It was textbook. But I mean anyone could tell that. What a fucking bellend he is.

Stumps, day 3: SA looking solid with a lead of 401. They have 134/3 on the board after 56 overs
Morkel may not bowl the rest of the test - which means Rabada/Philander with Maharaj & ELgar etc ... So we'll declare around lunch with a lead of ~500 or so and hope Australia give us a rather deserved 3-1 series win.

SA's 2nd innings declaration went on so fucking long that Smith and Warner were almost eligible to play in Australia's chase.

all their seamers are carrying muscle strains ... they were trying to ensure there was no way they could actually lose as there was concern we'd be bowling with Mahraj, Elgar & Markram instead of Philander, Morkel & Rabada!
