Fucking hell, I'd heard good things about him. After seeing that tackle he doesn't exactly cover himself in glory.

Milan director Ariedo Braida is reportedly in Belgium to scout Standard Liege winger Axel Witsel.

The Rossoneri have reiterated they want to sign a left-sided midfielder over the summer and 22-year-old Witsel certainly fits the bill.

According to Sky Sport Italia, director Braida has flown out to Brussels to view the player in tonight’s Euro 2012 qualifier between Belgium and Turkey.

The Belgium international is thought to be worth in the region of €15m and has long been on Milan’s wish-list.

Left sided midfielder?

He's a defensive midfielder but I think he started off playing wide, on the right though I thought ???

The Reds are also locked in a battle to sign Standard Liege midfielder Axel Witsel.

Liverpool have offered £10m for the 22-year-old, whose club rate him at £13m.

Milan sporting director Ariedo Braida watched him in action on Friday for Belgium in their Euro 2012 qualifying draw against Turkey.

And it was not a good night for Witsel, as he blazed a match-winning 74th-minute penalty over the bar.

AC Milan look set to sign Axel Witsel from Standard Liege with the two clubs locked in negotiations.

Milan chief Adriano Galliani has confirmed that the Serie A champions have opened talks. A deal for the Belgium international could be completed this week.

"In the last days there has been a contact with Standard Liege's officials for Axel Witsel," Galliani told Sky Italia.

Witsel had already stated he would leave the club this season, and a move to Serie A is now within touching distance.

"I need to make a move abroad in order to improve," he told Sporza. "You can see in training with [Vincent] Kompany and [Daniel] van Buyten. They are sharper in the duels and they always behave like a professional.

"My future? I am happy that I can go on holiday. Do I know something about Milan? No and even if that was the case, I would not say so."

Standard Liege vice-president Luciano D'Onofrio confirmed: "I spoke with the Milan hierarchy. We had a chat for a few hours yesterday."
