Big Andy - good riddance (deal confirmed)

I'm made up I won't have to listen to every-fucking-one banging on about £35 million once this goes through. Just like I was made up when I didn't have to hear people crying about how terrible "Joke Hole" was.

We blew the money on Carroll long a-fucking-go... who cares anymore. I just want to get a fee for him so we can use the money on someone else to improve the side.

Exactly Eecherow, who cares that we blew 35 million pound? Like WHAT- E - VERRRR people!

All right, let's continue to dwell on it until the end of fucking time. Someone should start a thread on who we could have bought instead that would have given us a better starting xi... that'll do us both nicely then.

His amortized value on the balance sheet would be about 20m at this point in the contract. Of course if he'd stayed until the end of the contract he'd have some residual value, so no ROI but it's far from the disaster it could have been. Not long ago we were talking about being lucky to get 10m!

It's all academic anyway. I wish him well, he doesn't suit the current management and needs to ply his trade elsewhere. Both parties will be relieved that the tag of most expensive footballer and worst transfer deal can begin to fade.

Dear me... you realise the bullshit figures accountants come up with don't actually correspond to real life money in the bank, right?

Who gives a fucking shit how anything looks on our balance sheet???!! We're a private company FFS.

We bought for £35m, we sold for £15m. The loss is £20m - end of.

Come on Peter - Don't spoil the mood by talking sense!

I'm simply delighted that the money that's coming in from the deal can (and hopefully will) be put to good and better use than having the player on the fringes or out on loan.

In fact you should turn it around and do a NPV analysis - £35M investment in Year 1, plus £5M wages in each of Year 1 & Year 2 against a return of £2Million in Year 3 (zero wages) and £15 million in Year 4, using a modest 5% annual discount rate, shows that in real terms (today's money) he has cost us £29.99M (see http://www.datadynamica.com/irr.asp)

Of course that doesn't account the value he added to the team by scoring goals, and just being there ... so maybe make it £29.95M

Lol Tom. You're really underestimating his contribution to the team, aren't you? 😀

Seriously though - he was given a big chance to play for a big club and succeed. He never gave it his best shot.
Will he do it for West Ham? Maybe. I'm not sure he has the mentality for doing it.

I don't think he was ever going to 'make it' at Liverpool so it doesn't really matter what he goes onto achieve now. It's good the saga is pretty much over though no doubt it won't be the last we hear of it.

Yea, I'm tickled pink to be honest.

So say

Carroll 16m
Suarez 40m
Skrtel 10m
Reina 5m
Shelvey and other lesser lights 10m

Means we could take in 81m.

Assuming the owners aren't completely tight, they could add a good 30m to that giving us a budget of about 110m.

So.....

Arsepass 7.5m
Alberto 7.5m
Armenian 25m
Mignolet 8m
Ilori 5m

Gives us an outlay of only 53m. Meaning we should see another 57m being on the table.

Papadopolous for 17m, still leaves us with 40m.

So could that mean we'll see Rodger sign competition for Lucas? Another stwiker?
Gene you ole' lump. Just got me excited. I see that we're negotiating for Atsu from Porto. BR is completing overhauling the squad and adding quality, not just numbers.

Thank God Andy is gone.

For the second time: merely pointing out it's not the financial disaster it could've been.

There are his wages we lost too but then there's the loan fees we received and the projected add-ons.

So you're figures aren't 'end of' or even close to it.

You do realise there are more factors than just transfer fees don't you?

Whatever, I think the club recouped more than we could have hoped for a short while ago.

By the way shareholders, banks and prospective buyers 'give a shit' about balance sheets.

Except for FFP purposes

*holding up hands*

I thought Andy would be a hit with us. Whenever I saw him play for Newcastle he looked the real deal and I was well excited about his arrival despite the stupid prize tag.

It did not pan out as planned.

I wish him luck, I don't blame him really as I don't think he's ever got a fair chance to prove himself and I still like him as a player.

He got plenty of chances, he just wasn't very good.

The main reason I'd move him on, apart from him being a 1 in 5 striker, which isn't very good, is that he's a sick note.

17m is ace.

That depends.

Compared to Lucas among others he's practically no chance got really. Coutinho and Sturridge hit the ground running but there weren't nowhere near the same pressure on their shoulders compared to the most expensive player ever.

I don't think he's got a fair chance but who cares really, that's the past and he's moved on, so have we. I wish him good luck still.

Kenny gave him ample support and time to produce ... He isn't good enough for a big club, which is why West Ham and Newcastle were the only clubs remotely interested in him.

He got lots of chances when he didn't look himself, unfit / injured or whatever but then after Xmas when he seemed 100% he seemed to get dropped randomly.

It's one thing to improve your positioning or adapt to the pace of a new league, but being taught how to play football isn't something I expect from a 20 year old who joins a top team.

I know you don't rate him in any way, but that's a bit harsh to say the least, he can play. When he was unfit he looked dire, when he got that bit of sharpness back he was alot better on the ball and a decent threat. Not worth £35m, not good enough for us (maybe), not suited to our system, but shite? I don't think so.

Rubbish Modo. Carroll can turn into an almost unplayable striker if he gets back on the right track.

He can also continue this stop and start with injuries, transfers and never get above West Hams level, but my bet is on the former.

We'll see.

Indeed. It was back to the case of play well, and then get dropped. Something we've sadly seen a lot over recent years to accommodate whatever clever tactics our current gaffer seemed to have thought up.

Judging from early days it actually seems Rodgers are less prone to these, imo, blatant mistakes.
