In such a remarkably short space of time Jude has become an iconic figure at Blues, showing what can be achieved through talent, hard work and dedication.
His caring, humble and engaging off-the-field demeanour has also made him such an impressive role model.
The 22 shirt has become synonymous with Jude (Bellingham), his rise to the first team aged just 16 years and 38 days and these qualities.
And as such the Club have decided it would be fitting to retire this number, to remember one of our own and to inspire others.

WTF?

He's not even in Englands U21s, FFS.
At 17 Michael Owen was scoring for fun in the Premier League.

That's just embarrassing.. only reason you should retire a number is if a current player dies while still on the payroll.

Retiring numbers bollocks grinds my gears.

*Insert Peter Griffin meme here*

What? Even Stevie G never had the luxury of having his number retired! How good is this Birmingham Kid?

Also are they going to keep doing this every time they get a decent youth prospect? It'll mean they soon wont have any numbers left unless they start into the 100s

Napoli retired Maradona's no 10 shirt. Rightfully I might add.
If we were to retire a shirt, it has to be no.7.

When he turns out to be a flop they will unretire it for him when he comes back on loan after a year

Very sad state of affairs for the blues, that's how low they've sunk. Up next they'll be retiring the shirt number of any player who scores an away goal.

That's just weird, isn't it? He's played, what, one season? I know it's Birmingham City and they aren't very good but most average teams don't advertise their lack of ambition and failure to keep their decent players like this!

Looks like retired shirts is a thing more than I thought though, but just not really in England. Mostly it is players who have played there for years and/or have been amazing (Maradona, Baresi, Maldini, Cruyff, Pele) or players who have passed away, which is fair enough as a mark of respect.

Imagine if Liverpool or United or Arsenal were in the business of retiring shirts. It wouldn't be long before the shirt numbers would be in triple digits.

Got a blues mate who's a season ticket holder, said the club line is they're doing it to try and encourage youth players through the system the weirdos but even their lot think it's terrible.
