I'd expect Brannagan to figure at some point as well. Very well-regarded at the club, captain of the youngsters, and very versatile - he can play behind the strikers, central midfield, holding midfielder, wing back - he's done it all at some stage over the past couple of years. Very suited to Klopp's energetic game, as well.
Just signed a new contract too.

But where is he strongest ? We don't want a so-so player in any position, we want them playing where they perform to their best. For Branna, from what I've read and seen in clips, I thought that was behind the forwards ?

Jurgen Klopp hailed Cameron Brannagan as a real talent as he reflected on the 19-year-old's new contract with Liverpool FC .

It came as the Liverpool manager gave another endorsement of the talent available to him generally at the club, despite the bulging injury list.

Salford-born Brannagan, the captain of Liverpool's U21 team, has been training at Melwood with the first team, and Klopp says he has seen enough to make a reasonable judgement on the player.

The new deal with keep the attacking midfielder at Liverpool to around 2018, the ECHO understands.

“I saw enough (of Brannagan) that I can say congratulations to both sides for this new contract. He's a great young guy. I like his style.

“For his age he brings everything you need for a midfield player he wants to play football, he's strong, he's clear, he's cool. It's not easy for these guys to train for the first time with a new manager and think always 'he's going to make a final judgement' or something like this. That's not how I work but these guys don't know this.

“I enjoy working with these guys. He's really a talent.

“We have to give these players enough time for development, for improvement, it's really, really important.
“I spoke with the Academy chief for a long time this morning (Alex Inglethorpe).”

Klopp believes his ability to work with young players is one of the reasons he believes he was picked for the Liverpool manager's role.

“I think it's one of the reasons I'm here. Everybody wants this here and I want this too, there's nothing between our opinions. It's very important

“For the whole situation it's not my way, or the LFC way, it's our way together. We all want the same thing, to be successful. Maybe I'm more patient than other people.

“Everyone can be sure we do everything – EVERYTHING - for this club, help the young players, help the experienced players. That's what we do all day. When the time come, we will see the result I'm sure.”

Want a mostly strong team with a couple youngsters fit in. Coutinho should sit, as Milner likely will (if he is suspended that is). Wouldn't mind giving Clyne a break. Otherwise play a strong lineup and pull players off early if we get a good lead.

Hate when we play Frankenstein sides of youngsters and rejects that have no hope of putting together a good performance.
I can't imagine Bournemouth playing a weakened side regardless of their PL position. I would be very very surprised if we were in a position to pull players off due to us being in a good lead.

Well, behind the forwards as in playing in midfield. He's not a number 10. He's a proper midfielder, who can attack when he needs to, defend when he needs to, and stick in the centre when he needs to.

I agree but I'd rather find out we were in for a tough game having fielded a strong side ready to compete than down a goal or two having fielded a bunch of Muppets.

We badly need a cup and with Arsenal going out it gives us more of a chance.

We should play a strong side and get a confidence boosting win.

Quite interesting stuff from Pep here:

Yes, very interesting!

I think, what's more poignant is how more intelligent the coaching staff and Klopp comes across. Rodgers spoke a good game but it always sounded as if he was making it up as he went along (not using words correctly didn't help his case).

He spoke mostly in finger dance.

Ljinders comes off quite enthusiastic in that clip there when explaining the tactical concepts they're trying to implement. Wonder if it was the same case when Rodgers in charge.

So how can we line up with Benteke and Sturridge injured again and Milner missing the game through suspension? Right now the options are really confusing and I kept changing the line-up as I was writing this. But I like what I came up with in the end.

  • Firmino should start, as we desperately need to inject some quality into the attack.
  • Origi – as much as many of us want him dropped after the last couple of performances, I'm afraid for this game it just doesn't make sense to leave him out. Better rest Coutinho and hope Benteke recovers by Saturday.
  • I was thinking a lot about playing Firmino as a #9 and in the end I just don't feel it's right to make a player – who is already coming off injury and still adapting to a new league – to adapt to a not quite comfortable position as well. Especially as in England the CBs are more physical and he would need to cover a lot of ground in Klopp's pressing system as a striker. Better to make Origi do the chasing up front and have Firmino pull the strings and provide a goal threat as a #10.
  • No need to rotate the CBs; the only one from the back 4 that I would consider resting is Clyne.
  • In midfield, I guess Allen will have to start, although I don't believe in the long term he's right for Klopp's system. Both Lucas and Can ideally need resting, but as I want to avoid playing Lucas and Allen in the same midfield (too similar, physically weak and zero goal threat), then Can will have to play. Maybe Brannagan can come on for him after 60 minutes.
  • I think we have to switch to the more attacking 4-2-3-1 for this game – this team needs to start scoring or their inability to do so will weigh on the players more and more with each game. If we can't get at least a couple against a team that conceded 10 in their last 2 games, we might as well give up on this season.
  • Ibe has to start and the other place in the attacking 4 maybe could be Teixeira if Klopp rates him, but it's would be a safer bet to play Lallana with the understanding that he won't start in London on Saturday.
So here's my team for Bournemouth:

----------------Mignolet------------------
Randall--Skrtel--Sakho(c)--Moreno
----------Allen----------Can-------------
Ibe------------Firmino-------Lallana---
------------------Origi---------------------

"I don't know all the rules in England regarding players on loan, whether I can bring them back or not. It is very different to Germany"

What did he mean by that ? That he would like to bring 1 or 2 back ? Then who might he have been referring to ? Markovic is the obvious one I think.

In Klopp's pre-match interview he specifically said 1 or 2 young players would start and alluded to the fact that some players need resting after 3 games in 9 days. I don't think he was referring to Ibe so I wouldn't be surprised to see a couple from Brannagan, Randall, Texeira, Chirivella and Sinclair get a start.

Yeah, maybe Sinclair for Origi could be a possibility if Klopp is really fed up with watching Divock struggle like he does. We'll see.

This is the time to start Benteke, Firmino & Coutinho to get them linking up, and hopefully haul 2 of the 3 off early to rest for Chelsea.

With arse and chelsea out, should we beat these guys we may have chance with trophy depending on draw.

Why does he need games? He's not very good. He needs less games.

Heh, he's clearly a very talented player. Klopp rates him, he bossed the WC and needs games to develop further.
After the shambles of a year he had at Lille he clearly has no confidence. A goal will probably go a long way to change that.

If he's given time to settle and develop he'll have a great chance of becoming a very good player. But as you are proving with that post loads are short sighted and have given up on him already.
Starting upfront in the Milk cup is only positive for his development. Seeing as we have loads of injuries upfront. We can only hope he develops quicker than what it looks like at the moment.

Patience isnt our best attribute on here.

When you say "bossed the world cup" do you mean "scored once"?

Origi needs games in the reserves, with minimal pressure, to get used to the way we play and to score goals so his confidence is up. He looks completely out of sync with the way we're playing, doesn't know what sort of runs to be making, doesn't know what positions to take up.
