Brexit 2025

When can we start to talk about it again in a mature fashion? Without Daily Mail vitriol.

When are we going to admit to ourselves that it was wrong? And that our economy is suffering, and always will suffer until it's overturned.

Just because the LEAVE vote won, how long do we have to stick pins in our eyes? 10 years or a 1000 years?

When are we going to admit that looking towards Europe is what we really should be aiming for, rather than aligning with the usually (particularly now) embarrassing US?

Has anyone identified a benefit yet? There used to be lots when we were in the EU!

Why don't the Libs or the Greens run on an EU ticket? I'd vote for them!

I completely agree with you. However, the reality is that neither of the major parties will go near the issue until the political timing is right. While a minority party could see a significant surge in support by advocating for rejoining the EU, both Labour and the Conservatives will avoid it for now. They won’t even consider reopening the debate until a larger proportion of the electorate that voted for Brexit has passed away, shifting public sentiment more decisively in favour of rejoining. Until then, it remains politically untouchable for them. Instead they'll be shitty half measures and concessions that will only delay the inevitable further, IMHO.

I do agree with the idea under 30s should be able to live and travel in Eurupe. That would be a pleasing step for a generation that has been dealt a significantly bad hand in starting up their lives.

If you wanted my guess, it's off the table for at least 20 years.

I think it is something that would absolutely crush the Reform Ltd.

If Labour were to campaign on rejoining the EU in 4 years time with the benefits it would bring then it would pull a lot of swing voters to them.

The talks of closer ties, reducing red tape and relaxing some rules would go a long way.

Thing is - EU isn’t likely to want the drama of the UK being back in until there’s an overwhelming majority in favour of and no likelihood of fuckwits like Farage or the Eurosceptic Tories being in any sort of mischief making position.

I can’t see UK going back in for decades - damage is done and Farage and the right can easily play the immigration card to whip up support against any momentum the Lib Dems might get for rejoining.

The prospect of a continuance of a popular Labour administration, adoption of the euro and sundry other terms our friends in the council would need to assure themselves we could not change our minds again would surely be irresistible?
