Post Match Brighton (A) 3-1- Mon 19th May 20:00

I’d rather lose games that don’t matter after winning all the games that did to win the league vs winning games after we’ve lost the league.

Timing is strange. After a goal and an assist (it was an assist as much as it was a deliberate attempt on goal) is the time to call out a player not being good enough. What about the 140 games prior? The truth is (like Jones) he hasn’t progressed nearly as much as we’d have hoped for. He’s a decent player but there’s too much of his game lacking, still looks like a teenager in a man’s game. Whether he’ll ever be a Prem regular…who knows, but I think even at his age now, someone like Wilson was further down the development line.

That's why we're getting Cherki or Xavi S.

They get it. Some on here don’t.

I thought we would lose this game based on the lineups, and we did. Nobody is arsed.

I think if I were at the game having a sing song as opposed to watching on my phone with two kids with covid at home on a Monday, id probably be in a more party spirit.

You can still evaluate the game and players and performances, because that's the only point of the game, it's the only thing that slot is using the games for. That and a muddled b story about padding Salahs stats.

That doesn't mean that when people are discussing how our weird lineups are playing that they aren't keeping things in perspective. I spent about 15 minutes of the first half making chat gpt execute on a SZOBO cop concept. I understand the assignment.

In a way this season is ending like the pre season started it, a bunch of stress tests of players that are on the pitch precisely because slot is dubious about them.

Still think our best partnership the last few years was Matip and Van Dijk. They had a great understanding.

1. Van Dijk - Matip
2. Van Dijk - Gomez
3. Van Dijk - Konate

And yet, the other two where the main pairings the years we won League titles.

His pressing was an asset a number of seasons ago but even that seems to have diminished recently,
He has definitely regressed this season in my opinion
I say that as a (former) fan

It’s a strange one, because he looked really good in pre-season, like he was ready to finally be a first team fixture.

Then, strangely, Slot gave him no time off the bench in the early games, then he got injured and just hasn’t been able to get back into it.

I wouldn’t judge him entirely on these last few games, but if Slot isn’t going to play him, as heartbreaking as it would be for him, he might have to look at moving.

I hope he doesn’t and finds a way to make it work and force his way into Slots plans.

Maybe - but he did OK today until that moment for the 3rd goal, but Konate did not really do himself any good leading up to that goal as the analysis showed on SkySports. Today was proof of a few things:

1) Konate is not the man without VVD
2) Elliot in midfield as a 10 is not going to work, we just got over-run too many times, highlighting why we need an energy/physical presence of some kind and why Szobo has been key for us.
3) Diaz was his best prick self
4) Nunez needs to go
5) Chiesa was getting knocked off the ball too much.
6) Q - I really don't know - I am broken between us having to spend 50M+ on a defender and hoping Q can perform like he did majority of last season.
Not just for this game but there are question marks over these players you have quoted all season and we should be looking to replace them if we can. If a good offer comes in for any of them I will be looking at them very seriously. I will add Robbo and Jones to the conversation.

Another unpopular opinion maybe but I think Quansah needs to go. I just don't think he has "it".
He's a decent defender and maybe a good 4th option, but he panics in the box. It just feels like chaos sometimes.
I think you're right, we should buy two defenders and send him out on loan so that he gets more experience.
We won't sell him (at least not this season). I showed in another thread that we need 5 CBs (not forced as in Endo or Gravy but as listed on the official LFC team sheet as 'CB'). Only twice in the past 10 seasons have we had less than 5 and sometimes as high as 7 (not inc. Youth), if we are to compete for 4 trophies.

There's no way in this Summer of churn we're buying 2 CBs (one of which will be big money) on top of LB/RB/CF and maybe Wirtz (which even if we don't get him shows the direction of thought).

VvD, Konate, Gomez, Quansah, and I pray one more at Konate's level, will likely be the starting complement.

Elliott would need to up his game considerably for him to force his way into Slot's plans.

Yesterday was a very good precis of what he does right and what he seems incapable of. Sharp passing and running with the ball, a creative eye, an attacking midfielder who gets into the box and offers options but on the flip side; lacks pace in both defence and attack, can't tackle to save his life and gives the ball away too frequently (a Red card offence for Slot).

I just don't see those negative aspects improving and we already have one right sided player who coughs up possession virtually every time he touches the ball. We can carry one because of what he offers in exchange for that (pace, goals and assists) - we can't carry two.

I don't get the point moaning about rotation now, but I do get the point of moaning how shite the fringes have been.

Theres some players who should have got more minutes over the season, but these last few games are half justifying slots decisions.

Elliott poor again(erratic touch, a lot of the ball but not pulling strings), tsimi just looking well off it, chiesa looking absolutely useless, quansah just isn't looking anywhere near the level required, Nunez gash (but at least moving like a 9).

I don't think I'd be sad if all left in the summer, providing cover was sought

Kerkez, wirtz, ekitike/sesko, a CB.

So us not winning the league was Matip's fault?

That’s not the point Modo - it’s more of an observation.

Like… we won a premier league with Darwin Nunez playing upfront, but didn’t win one with Luis Suarez, Fernando Torres, Michael Owen or Robbie Fowler playing up front.

None of those 3 pairings were bad - if anything it just proves that anyone could laying along side Virgil consistently will form a good defence - I bet Quansah would too if he played consistently alongside him.

I didn't say that - weird tangent ! You said we lost 2 CL finals and I said neither were the fault of our CBs.

Soz, I woke up in a confrontational mood 😉
Sunrise/Dawn up here is at about 3AM now and I forgot to draw the curtains barely got any sleep.

A proper loan has to happen for Quansah before he is moved on.
He won't develop if we keep him on as 4th choice.

It was very shameful performance by the manager and all players, as well as the new team captain LFC king Salah who was the worst player on the pitch? God help us if this inept attitude will carry forward to next season!! I don't even think Slot team and his king will win the last game at weekend? Awful show!

Let's face it, we're rotating now because we've won the league and because Slot has one eye on giving his top players as much rest as possible, to go again in August.

None of our fringe players have done themselves justice this season really, because they've had minimal chances. I don't think it's a coincidence that they have all failed, when previously they had all offered something that made a bit of a difference. The biggest step up this season has been the consistency of a relatively settled XI, that familiarity and cohesiveness has helped us win the league. The downside is that everyone else has played so little football, they've stagnated or regressed. That's on Slot really, though the plus side of winning the league far out weighs the downside, even if it's (arguably) meant we've failed in all of the cups.

Our fringe players getting games now is because everyone else has done their bit, it's as much about protecting the welfare of his preferred choices as anything, it's not really about giving these players a few games to prove themselves, because you don't make decisions like that, the decision will largely have already been made and it's difficult to motivate players when the league is won and they've been sat on their hands for 8 months. Even more so when they feel they don't have a future here.

The only players who can have no complaints are Jones, Nunez and Jota who have had more game time the rest and mostly flattered to deceive. Elliott, Endo, Chiesa and Quansah have been on a hiding to nothing all season.
