Fair Play
http://www.premierleague.com/en-gb/matchday/fair-play.html
The winners of the fair play league enter at the Q1 stage.

This place will automatically go to the three best-placed national associations in the UEFA Respect fair play rankings provided they achieve an average of 8.0 points or more.

The top three associations will then be entitled to enter the club that has either won their domestic top-division fair play competition, or if they have already qualified, the runners-up and so forth.
Premier League Fair Play League Table (Last updated: 11/03/2013)
1 Arsenal 8.79
2 Tottenham Hotspur 8.64
3 Liverpool 8.59
4 Fulham 8.55
5 Southampton 8.51

1st 'hurdle' is for England to squeeze into top 3 of the UEFA Respect Fair Play Competition. 2nd is for us to maintain our position in the Premier League Fair Play League Table.

Wouldn't mind it if it allows the youngsters taste of more 1st team football. Our UEFA coefficients ranking has also dropped from 4th (2010/11) to 17th (2012/13). From a long term point of view, would be good to maintain a healthy position in view of seedings.

They've really got to revamp this competition. It's got really good teams in it in the latter phases but it starts out like one enormous fart from the arsehole of the Champions League.

I want us to be in this competition even if we have to take the backdoor in. The early rounds of the Europa League games provide a good number of games for the youngsters, fringe players and for guys coming back from injury (if any). The League Cup games are too few and far in-between to serve that purpose.

Ditto.

To say nothing of the fact that I doubt most players (read : potential signings and current players) give a fuck about how we got in just so long as they get to play European competition (of course they would prefer the CL but the EL is better than fuck all).

Liverpool and Everton could be handed a boost in their bid to reach Europe next season following Easter Monday’s FA Cup quarter-final.

With Chelsea due to host Manchester United in a replay at Stamford Bridge, victory for the Blues would put them in a semi-final tie with Manchester City.

But should Rafael Benitez’s team go on to win the FA Cup and finish in fifth spot, the west London side would have qualified for the Europa League in two different ways.

In that event, the Blues would reach the tournament through their FA Cup win, with no UEFA rules stating that the domestic cup runners-up would take the vacated spot. That could open up a possible place for the sixth-placed Premier League side.

UEFA only state that the runners-up of the FA Cup are handed a European spot if the winners have already qualified for the Champions League.

Chelsea currently sit fourth in the Premier League which would see them reach the Champions League next season, but with Tottenham and Arsenal narrowly ahead and behind respectively, one of the London rivals is set to miss out on Europe’s premier club competition next term.

England’s spots for the Europa League go to the FA Cup winners, League Cup winners and fifth place in the Premier League, meaning an extra spot in the league could open the door for Everton and Liverpool who are sat sixth and seventh in the table respectively.

Should Chelsea win the Europa League there are no additional places in the competition handed to the Premier League, even if the Blues finish fifth and win the FA Cup.

If Chelsea’s only trophy win comes through the Europa League and they finish lower than fifth, they would defend their trophy and it wouldn’t come at the expense of the contingent of the English clubs.

There is a chance Liverpool could sneak a European place through the fair play league. “It is not something I would be keen on. I want to get there through the right means,” he said. “Maybe we should get a couple of sending-offs or bookings. We want to get into it with our performance level and it’s highly unlikely we’d get that route.

“There’s a pride thing. You want to get in it by performing and through the positions. It was a long journey in it this year and don’t get me wrong we enjoyed it and we were disappointed when we came out of it, but I think down the fair play route it [qualifying rounds] starts even earlier. I’d prefer to be in it by qualifying through the league or winning a trophy. If it’s not that way then we as a club are better suited to re-aligning our focus to domestic cups and the league.

“We can really push on next year. In the second half of the season there are not many games we have been outplayed or outscored. There have been structural changes to the team. We needed to get goals into the team and we’ve done that. The balance of the team has got better, but it was never going to be perfect. With some more quality in there we can go a long way.”

Disgraced Liverpool striker Luis Suarez could return to competitive action in the first week of July, and it's all thanks to Liverpool's fair play this season.

Despite their star man picking up a ten-match ban for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic, Liverpool could still make it into the Europa League next season through the UEFA Fair Play League.

If they do qualify, Brendan Rodgers' men would have to play six competitive qualification games before the season starts, and Suarez would be eligible for all of them.

This would still mean Suarez would be banned for the first six domestic games of next season, but it could see the disgraced star playing nine competitive games if Liverpool progress to the group stage before he is eligible for a return to Premier League action.
WITH OR WITHOUT YOU: LIVERPOOL POTENTIAL FIXTURES

Suarez will miss:

Premier League:

April 27 - Newcastle (a)

May 5 - Everton (h)

May 12 - Fulham (a)

May 19 - QPR (h)

Suarez could play in:

Europa League:

July 4 - First qualifying round first leg

July 11 - First qualifying round second leg

July 18 - Second qualifying round first leg

July 25 - Second qualifying round second leg

August 1 - Third qualifying round first leg

August 8 - Third qualifying round second leg

(August 17 - Premier League season starts: Suarez banned for first six games)

August 22 - Europa League play-off first leg

August 29 - Europa League play-off second leg

September 19 - Group stage Matchday 1

The book was thrown at the 26-year-old by the FA for his savage attack on Ivanovic in Sunday's 2-2 draw at Anfield, but the ban will not affect Liverpool's placing in the Premier League fair play table, where they are second.

Only cards issued on the pitch are taken into consideration in the fair play standings, with retrospective disciplinary action ignored.

UEFA will offer a place in next season's Europa League competition to the top ranking club from each of the top three fairest European leagues.

England are currently fourth behind Norway, Sweden and Finland in the overall rankings, but have a month to make up the difference.

Liverpool are second behind Arsenal in the Premier League fair play table, but with the Gunners looking set to finish in fifth place at the very least, Brendan Rodgers' men would take the qualification place.

His side have 49 yellow cards and two reds this season, given to Daniel Agger and Jonjo Shelvey earlier in the campaign, but the fair play table also takes into account positive play, respect towards opponents and the referee and behaviour of team officials and public.

The only downside to qualifying for the competition through the fair play route is that Liverpool would start their competitive season on July 4 for the first leg of the first qualifying round.

This means Suarez could be involved in nine competitive games before his domestic ban is lifted, meaning the Merseyside club's influential goalscorer will not struggle to gain match fitness for his return to top-flight football.
Saviour: Suarez scored the equaliser in stoppage time to gain Liverpool a point against Chelsea

Joey Barton's lengthy ban for his behaviour in QPR's end-of-season clash with Manchester City last May allowed him to play in the Europa League for Marseille, but still had to wait until November to play his first league game.

Liverpool, who have until midday on Friday to appeal, said they were "shocked and disappointed" at the length of the suspension.

Suarez had accepted the FA charge of violent conduct but claimed his ban should be three games, the standard punishment for violent conduct, but the striker is a repeat offender.

The ban covers their final four games of this season and the first six games of next season, meaning Suarez may not play again in domestic competition until October.

So how how far above the rest would we be in the fair play league without Suarez? We can as well sell him. He doesnt score enough to get us into Europe, but without him we seem to be automatic for Europe every season!!!

I would laugh my arse off if this actually happened. It would piss off the FA and every other Suarez hater out there which frankly I'd be delighted about.

It would be boss if we finished below Everton but we got into Europe & they didn't.

That said I'd prefer to not get in it through some backdoor & play even more games than the 307 you normally have to play to get anywhere.

Ha! I never thought of that - The hits just keep on coming. I really hope this happens.

Fuck going back in that bastard cup. Players will be knackered before the season starts if we have to go in that and do our friendlies, and it's a poxy cup anyways. Thanks but no thanks.

I think it is actully important that we compete in Europe next season.
Our ranking has slipped somewhat from the glory days and if we do qualify for the Champ league next season we are likely to be in pot 2 at best, and that is assuming we have a rune in the Europa league next season.
No europe next season could see us in pot 4 for the champions league group stages draw

I hope we do. We can get competitive games so perhaps we don't start the season as bad as we always do. We can let our fringe players show if they are anything to have in the squad or should we ship them out. Better than shit friendlies.

Some Europe is better than no Europe, even though it's not the champions league, it still has a pull for players. Anyway we can easily play youngsters and Suarez in the first few rounds, it'll be good for all of them.

Where does it stand at the moment in terms of us getting in?
