Brendon Rodgers being moooted to replace Puel at Leicester City...

Fans are disgruntled with Puel as Leicester manager which has prompted this move

Is this a Step up or a Step down for the man who's biggest mentor is himself because he had to study and that's been his biggest influence..

It's hard to think Leicester only won the title a few seasons back .

Step down. He won’t leave Celtic for that

Yeah, I was thinking that, but there's also the rumblings of discontent about transfers and money, which may be a factor.
Plus he knows that winning titles and Cups with Celtic isn't exactly a guaranteed passport to the best jobs in football, because anyone can win trophies in Scotland - just ask Neil Lennon.

It may be that he needs another stepping stone to get back to the very top echelons of football, which is what he wants. As his great mentor and renowned philospher Brendan Rodgers once said: "I use a quote with the players,'Per aspera ad astra', which is Latin for ‘through adversity to the stars’."

It wouldn't be a bad move for him IMHO. Good local youth scouting, good financial backing, a fairly good squad. The negatives would be that he'd have to start rebuilding the spine of the side - most of them are getting on now - and he'll have to either ship out or win over some players who've proved themselves very obdurate if they don't like any changes to their style of play. Rodgers has done brilliantly at Celtic - yes, it's in a poor league, but he's still done far, far better than others have done - but he must be concerned that he's gone as far as he can there, and he'd surely want to go out on a high. Maybe he'd want to go to the tiki-taka heaven of Spain? Otherwise, he'll probably have to settle for a mid-table team here. Neither Wolves nor Bournemouth look like changing managers anytime soon. If Newcastle finally got new owners and Rafa went elsewhere, that would surely be an attractive project for him. Otherwise Leicester represents a decent gamble.

A few people are going to accuse him of jumping ship when the going gets tough because of Gerrard and rangers. I think he stagnated just before that threat arrived, basically he has banged his head on the achievement ceiling up there and it's hard not to look south again.

Leicester doesn't look an easy job to me though but I think he'll do alright.

He's really done all that he can do at Celtic. There is a ceiling and he's at it. Leicester would be a great club for him and i'd actually enjoy seeing his brand of football back in the PL.

I think I would also and more importantly the Leicester fans would.

Eh?? It's been a record-breaking time for them. They went through a season unbeaten. They've won loads of stuff. That's 'a special direction' by their standards in this era.

I thought they were expected to win everything domestically? But real progress would be og far in EL or even qualify for CL?

The club doesn't have the squad for the CL and it doesn't have the inclination to fund one. It's incredibly mean-minded to describe his first couple of seasons as just run of the mill meeting expectations. He deserves real credit for that achievement.

Yeah. True. I might be harsh here.

You're a great technician to come up with that title. Anyway, Celtic are shit, any manager could win everything up there with the advantage they've had over everyone. His true test would be to do something in europe with them, which he hasn't. Leicester might be a good fit though.

Taking over Leicester would be a good move for him imho. Good young squad, Pereira, Maguire, Chilwell, Caglar, Gray, Madisson, Ndidi, Choudhury, Iheneacho. And then you have Vardy and Schmeichel who can play for a few more years at least.
Good financial backing and he'd be expected to maybe fight for an Europa league spot or thereabouts, which this Leicester team can do with the right signings.

He'd probably need a few good season there to set his name in higher regard. Winning the league with Celtic doesnt matter at all as others have said.
If he had some decent results in Europe that would probably have been a positive, but even though he has gotten them into the CL twice, they have an horrendous away record. Nothing new there in other words.

Tell that to John Barnes. (And all the Celtic managers who failed to go through a season unbeaten, or break a century-old British record with their run. Which is all of them except one.)

Its an impossible task to argue that Leciester isnt a step up from Celtic in just about every aspect however I'd stick with the flat track bully routine at Celtic if I were him, become some sort of managerial legend with a real legacy there and dont become some likely journeyman manager after a spell at Leicester

Though in fairness Macca, few of the others had the luxury of competing against a penniless Rangers side, freshly emerging from years in the lower divisions.

Good point. In terms of playing style, though, and against a couple more strong teams than at most times in the past, I think it was a very impressive achievement. Not that anyone would mistake me for a Rodgers fan!

Nah. There's no team outside the Top 6 that can challenge them except if one of those six fuck up. And I don't see that happening anytime soon.

True but he's worshipped up there and they are still winning everything.

I can see him staying until they get to 10 in a row and surpass their and Rangers record of 9.

Could be a good move for him. Celtic has not moved in a special direction since he arrived and I can't see he take them to a higher level anyway.

Ha what now?

They've won every domestic trophy on offer since he's been there?

The only black mark was not making the CL group stage this year but that's always a big ask for a Scottish team.

And they have gotten to the knockout stages of the Europa league.

His ego would love to be the man to take them to 10 in a row and I think the fans would be happy for him to leave after that.
