Its called market forces though surely.
Given that we are:
a) Not in Europe at all
b) Have had only one "title" challenge in 10 odd years
This will affect in the main who we can buy. Its been stated many a time the need to buy English, and while I'm not sure I agree, with that entirely, if that's the way we go then the English player market is over-priced.
Does Charlie Adam, Stuart Downing, Andy Carroll & Jordan Henderson improve the squad, the bench and in some cases the 1st team? Yes it does imo. I'd rather have any of them over the high wage freebies and the £1m to £6m try it and see purchases we have been making for years.
Do I think I'd have spent that amount of money on them? Personally no, but the main who is buying them is considerably more qualified than us (yes I know that's a cliche but its valid for me!) and also has 7 weeks odd to add more to the list or not even buy all of the above.
Lets face it we've bought Henderson and whilst loads have said it was for £20m loads are saying it was not. You choose to believe the higher, I'll sit back and wait and see.
We can buy players for high fees and they can fail, or we can buy them and judge their value on how they play and perform and what they bring to LFC.
I'm only kidding about the hysterical bit btw, its a boring joke now and I'll drop it, I promise.
