Downing is not a direct replacement for any of our current midfielders, hes a winger for Gods sake. Kenny clearly thinks Shelvey is one for the long terms plans so he wont be going anywhere unless its on loan to get game game time. As for Lucas and Ming well Lucas is settled here and seems to love the club he never complains so I cant see him going anywhere unless he asks to leave. Meireles Im not so sure about, top player and id be sorry to see him go but he hasnt been here long and its possible he might be having trouble settling in especially as the squad is looking more anglo saxon and less iberian than it has in a very long time

That's possible, but I doubt it, ie Meireles.
He's had a very good season,even under Hodgson and he's looked even better under Kenny.

If the stories are true and he was verbally promised a salary review at the end of his first season IF he did well, Comolli and Kenny should be falling over themselves making good on that promise.

I can't understand why anyone would be happy to see Ming go. He was one of a small number positives to come out of the season.

I'm with you Sheiky, he's one of only a few classy players we have.
I was well up for Adam a few months ago, but then i saw him have a complete shocker against Brazil and have never quite regained my confidence in him.
Quite happy to see Adam arrive, I think his left foot will do wonders for Carroll, but certainly not at the expense of Ming, I can't see that happening to be honest......In Kenny I trust

bottom line I don't see gerrard 'AND' meireles 'AND' adam being in the team all at the same time seeing as none of them are wide players (although gerrard could play there) and not of them are holding midfielders. if those three players are used at the same time it will either mean no width or no protection for the centre backs, neither of which is going to be good for the team.

I think kuyt, suarez and carroll, with a youngster is fine, put it this way I want the majority of our money spent on midfield options rather than striking options.
