It's weird. Lucas must be seen as our sole DM so. Adam Gerrard Henderson Meireles and Lucas fighting for 2-3 spots. At least we'll have competition and options. Downing and potentially Kuyt at times on the right to fit in.

Shelvey needs to go on loan to Villa or someone. Don't want him to drop down a division.

Well, he needs to go somewhere that'll play him week in, week out.

I think he's talented, but I'm still not quite sure what his level is *now*.

It'd be nice if we could send him somewhere in the Premiership though. You always worry for our players that drop down a division.

I'd prefer to just keep jonjo. How many bastard midfielders do we need like.

Contradicting yourself there mate? ;D

Apparently the fee for Adam is £7 million up front which would be excellent business in my view.

How is it excellent business when it raises our number of midfielders to what, eight?

Were bound to be lining up with 5 in midfield more often than not with all these centre mids. I can feel it deep in my bollocks.

Because for all the midfielders, we don't have a player like Adam. Someone with superb vision and passing range. Not to mention someone who can take a corner and actually beat the first man.

Us Liverpool fans have moaned for ages about the lack of quality depth in the squad...and now it looks as if we're building a much stronger squad in terms of quality and options, people still moan.

Was just about to post the exact same thing. I'd be sad to see him go but it wouldn't surprise me.

Exactly. We are going to be using more than 11 players next season so anything that means we won't be having to resort to using the likes of Poulsen and Jovanovich is surely a good thing.

Things aren't looking good for Jay Spearing are they?

Not only have we signed 1400 midfielders already this summer but the latest one is likely to try and eat him.

It would me. Kenny rates him highly, he was superb at times for us last season, one of our best players, a scoring MFer, and never had a terrible game. He's #2 to SG so how could him going and us getting Adam and Henderson be an improvement ?

Far more likely that Shelvey is going out on loan somewhere.

I think wee Jay may be sold, and the Meireles rumours are too unexpected to have no truth in them.

A midfield of Alonso, Gerrard, Adam and Henderson is quite passy.

alonso?

It's all over Radio City again this afternoon, reports from Blackpool that he's on the verge of signing in a £10m deal.

Shelvey will go on loan I reckon, Lucas and/or Spearing might drop to the bench and it's likely that Henderson will play on the right a fair bit.

Shelvey - loan
Ming - if still here, attacking mid
Gerrard - attacking mid
Spearing - bench
Lucas - DM
Adam - CM
Henderson - RM

So that's four regulars for three positions in the middle of the park really, plus Spearing as back up.

the only thing we moan more about than the lack of quality of depth is focusing on the wrong priorities.

Getting in another midfielder when we have zero wingers is not excellent business.

Yes, we havent finished spending yet, but the righ priorities should have been made.

If we buy ten midfielders and play them all at once I couldn't give a fuck as long as we won the league.

Maybe we won't be getting out and out wingers. Is that the only way? Has every successful side in history had out and out wingers?

We don't know what is going on in the background Avvy, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
We have done this before and stalled potential signings waiting for other things to fall into place, they don't happen so you miss your initial targets, and end up with nowt.
I think we need to sit back watch what happens and trust in Kenny, Comolli and the new owners.

regards

Milan have done quite well with their diamond formation.

It's not a case of getting out and out wingers though, it's a case of getting good attacking players. Right now, we don't have enough of them... if you want to call 'em wingers, then yeah we need some more wingers.

Yeah, it's about variation more than anything, we still need a quick player who scores and provides goals. If we can buy someone like that we're onto a good thing, Adam and Henderson will at the very least be a major boost to the squad and our versatility.

I certainly agree with that. We have been short of attacking players for some time now. But I am not too concerned whether they are natural wide players or not as long as they are quality players and we can find an effective formation that accommodates them.

In fairness the only players that we have signed so far under these owners have been attacking players and the only players we are being linked to have been attacking players (apart from the defenders of course!) which suggests that they are aware of the problem, even if they are not necessarily fixing it in the same way as some others would prefer

I would rather reverse that. I have higer hoped for Shelvey. Really like him as player in his limited playing time.

Harsh on wee Jay I know.

Only eight players were involved in more goals (scored & assisted) than @Charlie26Adam in the 2010-11 Premier League.

Of cos, as Vlad mentioned, he scored a fair share of penalties.

The way our reported targets lead in statistics is very FSG-esque

How do you know they haven't been ?

If Mata is a priority then there's nothing to be done until after the U-21s finish. But it also makes sense to get business done when the opportunity arises ... not put it off until it's too late.

Seems we always want to us to get our transfer dealings over with ASAP ..... and then we moan about when we do !
