I voted other because I have no idea what the wise thing to do is. There isn't an obvious candidate out there that I can think of that would have the balance of experience, acumen and stature. As much as I love Klopp and was gutted when he left I just have a nagging feeling it would end badly if he returned; although if I had to pick a list he'd be the only one on it.

I also instinctively feel that it's wrong to sack Slot so soon after winning the title.

That said, do I have faith in him fixing the problems with the team? No. He's shown nothing so far to indicate he is trying anything. He doesn't even seem to be able to get us to do basics; defend compact, press, battle etc. His refusal to play Chiesa more often is genuinely mind-boggling to me.

And tbqhwy I didn't like the way we downed tools after securing the title last season. It smacked of being happy to just win the thing once, rather than sending a message that we'd immediately be looking to win it again.

Heard a few whispers over the weekend that a lot of resentment stems from the Ekitike red card and how he handled the whole situation. The players were already unified having won the title and then everything over the summer, there was a seize mentality there and there's a feeling within the club that he's been too quick to scapegoat and not defend players.
 
I am still yet to see anyone describe what system, tactics or approach Slot is trying to instill. Every game it looks like a clear case of throwing 11 players out and hoping they perform.

Any update @Dreambeliever on this question I asked about a month ago that you mostly dodged. What have we seen in the last 3 - 4 games that continue to make you think we should keep him as head coach?

In the last 8 months (since we lost to PSG) we have won 14 of 27 games, losing 11. 49 goals scored, 41 conceded.

This isn't "just" a run of 6 bad games. It is 8 months of shite. We stumbled over the line in the league, threw away a league cup and a community shield. The longer Slot has been our head coach, the worse the team have performed.

Doak, Morton, Kostas, Sepp, Clark all kicked to the curb.

He doesn't know how to improve players, besides turning Grav into a monster #6, he's done absolutely fuck all for the players. The cunt throws cup games by letting a bunch of kids get humiliated, done it twice. What kind of manager does that? Klopp was fond of all his players and got to know them on a personal level, I doubt Arne even knows the names of Mac's/Grav's/Szobo's newborn, the prick.

You know the only senior right back we have.
And why isn't Chiesa starting?
And why isn't Endo being used?
And why was Ekitike on the bench?

Go and look at the minutes played last season, and come back and talk to me about using the squad again.
 
Practically, I could understand 'downing of tools' to a point last year if it was about saving energy and legs for next season. There's never any point chasing records at the expense of silverware. You know, in those post-World Cup/European Championship seasons, where the lesser teams cause more upsets because they're fitter, fresher and have reduced injuries. This season feels like that, but we were the only ones participating. I also think it may have led to a drop in standards, and the new players have entered a less accountable environment. Speculating, of course, but there's fucking loads wrong with us right now and there's a good chance that's part of it. I've said it time and time again, there's nobody in the squad, other than maybe Robbo, that has the personality to keep people switched on in games and bollock them when they are too passive. VVD flailing his arms around in the air, complaining when he has to do anything, isn't leadership. It's wank. Szobo has led from the front in terms of his performances, but if I'm going to be critical, at least one of him, Mac Allister of Gravenberch, needs to step up as a proper midfielder leader.

Unfortunately for Slot Robbo was on the piss all week and knackered.

Gomez is anyone’s guess there are plausible reasons why he might not have started.
Fitness, attacking threat, balance.
Chiesa didn’t start because Salah plays in his position.
Endo has been muck evert time he’s played this season and also Slot himself has said as we have been chasing games of late most of his subs have been attacking ones not defensive ones.
Hugo was on the bench because we need to get Isak up to speed. Again Slot explained that.

Robbo did several interviews the days after. He's the captain, and he looked fine.
Chiesa is right footed. He can play on either wing.
Endo has probably been muck because he has zero match fitness.
Terrible decision regarding Hugo.

We didn't down tools in February. We got tactically outclassed in the PSG game and the Newcastle final in a way Liverpool managers shouldn't be. I have no issues with losing games. The problem is that we could have played those games three times, and the outcome would still be the same. The momentum and quality carried us over the line. We haven't played well since then.

Point stands, they were all significantly better under Klopp than they were Arne....& that's all about, as you know, being a good at the man management side of being a head coach, Arne simply doesn't have the skill nor the personality to connect with players like a Klopp can.

If he wants it, frankly I think that is not a bad suggestion at all.

He is revered and liked by all.
He has experience dealing with some of the issues that we have and might be able to lift the spirit of the squad.

So long as he is ably supported tactics and trainings wise. I can easily think of other suggestions being mentioned here going wrong, if done in haste.

Our net spend in the summer really wasn't anything to shout home about, especially when you factor it covered 2 seasons worth.

Besides we were willing to spend that extra £30-35m to bring Guehi in until it fell through.

Get rid of Arne, bring in Semenyo and Guehi for £90-100m. Move on Gomez, win the FA cup and qualify for the CL, then we can all have a quiet summer.
