Chelsea v Liverpool - Match Thread - FA Cup

Wasn't last night the first time a Gomez VVD partnership has been beaten? And that was with Fabinho having his worst ever game in front of them.

Ah right ok

As far as results go. Losing 1-0 to AM was ok. Never thought we'd beat Chelsea in the cup. The only outllier is Watford, but I think they can get shit moving again on Saturday and then burst AM in the week.

The worry for us is that Fabinho was so terrible, and how crap he's been since he got back from injury. And how uninspiring Keita has been. And how hit and miss Ox is. And how Gini goes missing all the time. And how having spent 170ish million on midfielders, Henderson is the pick of the bunch, and he's gonna miss the CL game.

The criticism of our team is that the midfield doesn't do anything creatively, but if they're knackered and underperfoming at an athletic level, which they are, you get to see how important they are when they don't seem to be doing all that much, but are constantly winning the ball back and forcing errors. They're tired after two years of bombing it everywhere every three days. It's a bit of a worry for the CL, hope they can sort themselves out for the home leg next week.

After 10 minutes last night i thought we were well equipped to beat CFC, unfortunately Fabinho never got his act together along with most of the playing squad and the chavs got right back into it, and then you had Kepa become a world class keeper for the night and that was that. Not so much Saturday but against Madrid its going be a mentality issue and we have been the monsters at that this season so i expect us to progress through.

Come on mate, this aint rawk, trollings part of the Internet, and svennis is hardly the brightest one of the lot. Just ignore him, or challenge him, im sure you could outsmart both of his brain cells if you tried.

We only ban for breaches of the rules, which basically boils down to being a twat and leaving your tapatalk signature on, or targeted persistant abuse against a poster, svennis doesnt fit either of those categories.

SVENNIS STAYS.
Everyone has posters they can't stand, I'm sure I'm on more than a few lists. However it's not because any of them don't love the club. And all of those posters are involved in sensible discussions and contributions as well as shall we say more 'antagonistic' posts or the odd slanderous dialogue.

Rules: This is a private forum not a court of law. He does nothing, absolutely nothing, but appears when are having a bad time / poor game and post digs and outright shit, I'm far from sure he's not a Manc. He has no intention of debating anything his one intent is to post shit to rile people and he doesn't respond. Post and run is his modus operandi.

He adds nothing whatsoever to the forum / community, look at the responses to his set of match posts, he just annoys the fuck out of everyone, it's probably how he gets his jollies. It isn't banter it's shit designed purely to irritate. The man is not a Liverpool fan, I don't like banning people, even the few Mancs that appeared unless they get out of hand. But Svennis is a cunt of the highest order and is not any sort of poster on this forum.

I remember saying this last season, it's a fucking disgrace when we spend so much money and yet here we are, cry-arsing about Henderson being injured, praying for Milner to start the next game, wondering if Chamberlain is worth starting over Curtis Jones and giving Adam Lallana starts.

And as for the attack, well, the fact that Origi has made over 20 league appearances and we started last night's game with him and £7m Minamino up front just about fucking says it all.

The squad isn't good enough and injuries/ loss of form show that very clearly indeed.

Diagrace is a bit much given the results over the last two years. Its not like we have suffered to much. And the midfielders we have must surely have done something right given that we are were we are today...

Not really that bothered that we got beat, just pissed that Berkley scored, but the reason I am not that bothered is that after the Watford game it was important that we made some changes to try and figure out what went so wrong and why we could not rectify it...
The Chelsea & Watford games just (for me at least) backed up what I had been saying for three or four seasons now and about Origi, Lallana, and the Ox...
The young ones and Minamino need to be given their chances in the starting eleven, that way they will improve knowledge of the way players in our team play, thier movements etc...
The front three is a big problem... On form the deadliest in the world, yet there seems to be something missing from them as late. They struggle to break down defenses and as a whole the team seems to have lost that devastating attack and counter attack speed which worked so well in the pass, instead choosing to slow things down in the belief that no matter what we will score. Yes, it has worked in the pass, sometimes just, but against better organized defenses we have been lucky
If we can buy a player that is better than any player we have; in any position; we should not hesitate regardless of if that play has scored an important goal for us in the past. We should be asking of our players the question Janet Jackson asked.... What have you done for me lately?
Players like Lallana the Ox and Origi have slowed the development of players like Harry Wilson, Curtis Jones, Rhian Brewster and many more. Had it not been for Origi and the Ox someone like Jones or Brewster may have been played on the Left or in Brewster’s case through the middle...
We have to be better, more decisive and quicker in the transfer market and players in & out

Comparing the stats of Virgil van Dijk’s centre-back partners at Liverpool

Liverpool boast the best defensive record in the Premier League so far this season – but the question of who should be Virgil van Dijk’s regular partner remains unanswered.
Van Dijk has started every single Premier League game so far this season, playing almost every minute, and the effect he has had on the red's fortunes has been well documented.
However, he’s had not had a regular partner this season, with Joe Gomez, Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip all playing alongside him at different points. Here’s how the trio’s stats compare:

Goals Conceded
Liverpool have made headlines for their defensive record and set an all-time club record with nine clean sheets in their opening 12 games, but standards have dipped slightly recently.
Still, Jurgen Klopp’s men have kept 13 clean sheets from 24 games in the Premier League so far – three more than the next best teams, Chelsea and Manchester City. In total, they’ve conceded just 14 goals.

Gomez has had the longest run in the team this season, and their slight dip from a defensive standpoint correlates with the injury that’s kept him out since early December – the Reds have kept just one clean from their last six games without him, in all competitions.

In the 12 games Gomez has started, Liverpool have kept seven clean sheets, conceding just four goals.
In comparison, they’ve have kept just one clean sheet in the five matches that Matip has started, conceding five. However, he did feature in the impressive, vital 1-0 win over Napoli that saw Liverpool progress to the Champions League knockouts.
Klopp regularly turns to the Cameroonian as an extra man in defence when the Reds are seeing out a game, but it’s not always been the best strategy – for example when Spurs rallied to score in injury-time and nearly win a penalty in Liverpool’s 2-1 win at Wembley back in September.
Lovren was Van Dijk’s first-choice partner at the back in the latter half of last season, but a combination of Gomez form and injuries have seen him play fewer matches this term.
From the Croatian’s nine league starts this campaign, Liverpool have conceded five and kept five clean sheets.

Results
Of the nine league matches that Lovren has played in, Liverpool have won seven, drawn one and lost one – their only defeat of the season so far, away to Man City in early January.

Other results with Lovren in the backline have included the 5-1 over Arsenal, the 3-1 against Man United and goalless draw at home to City.
Matip had a 100% win record in the league this season until Wednesday’s match against Leicester. It’s four wins and a draw from five starts for him, although none of those games have included opposition from the Premier League’s top eight.
With Gomez starting, Liverpool have won nine and drawn three (Chelsea, Arsenal, City) of 12. Occasionally, such as the draw at the Etihad, Klopp has opted to use the young Englishman as a right-back.
Liverpool have picked up 2.44 points per game when Lovren has started, 2.5 with Gomez, and 2.6 with Matip.
Defensive Contributions

In terms of tackles, Gomez averages 1.5 per 90 minutes. Lovren is at 1.3 whereas Matip appears less imposing, with just 0.5. As a reference point, Van Dijk’s average for tackles is 0.9 per 90.
Lovren gets dribbled past almost once per game, averaging 0.8. Gomez falls to one-in-two at 0.5, and Matip to one-in-five.
Van Dijk, on the other hand, underlines his brick wall reputation with the mindblowing stat that he’s yet to be dribbled past in the league, after 24 games.

Gomez averages 1.2 interceptions, while Matip averages 2, and Lovren 0.7.
For fouls, Gomez averages one per game, Matip’s ratio falls a little to 0.8, whereas Lovren commits just 0.3 per 90.
Lovren and Matip have been booked once each in the league, while Gomez has been booked twice. None of their defenders have seen a red card so far this season.

FFS that's more than a year old and not relevant.

Svennis used to be Sven

Sorry, but that's nonsense. Brewster has been badly injured for over a year. That's not down to those players. Wilson has been 'developing' on loan, and even then many on here were happy to see him sold. Jones has been 'developing' well enough, even if he's not as good as he thinks he is. You don't get these claims made when the team is winning every game for the past few months, but now every single ridiculous fake complaint pops up.

Clyne was injuried and TAA step in, and stepped up. who is to say that Brewster would have played had he not been injuried or wilson for that matter, and who is to say that they would not have been regular starters we can't say. The only thing that we do know is a) we did not play them to find out and b) we know how lacking Origi,Lalana and the Ox...
