There is no evidence for this at all. Delta has seen less deaths than Alpha because of the vaccines, despite all the evidence showing Delta is a worse variant.
Whether or not Omicron causes milder disease is just speculation at this point.
Bollocks.

For the first booster. Not every 3 months.
And that's only because of the yet unknown Omicron.
There is no chance whatsoever that I'm clicking on that and listening to randoms on youtube. I'll leave the rabbit holes to you Internet experts.
If you want to summarise the claims, and more importantly a legitimate, scientifically valid source, I'll happily engage.
He's a doctor going through the initial data that has come out of South Africa. He even provides a basic summary in the first few minutes. You can watch the whole thing for sources etc.
He has over a million subscribers, and his videos on a variety of different medical subjects have hundreds of millions of views.
He offers fair and balanced information in the videos I've seen. He has a background of teaching nursing in universities in the UK, as well as Asia and Africa. He's not a conspiracy theory nut.
Although, isn't the absolute best scenario, if it is a highly communicative but mild variant, to encourage its spread? Isn't that what we should be looking for? We know having had covid is better for future protection than the vaccines. I'd prefer getting a mild version doing the rounds like the cold, than having vaccines and lockdowns.
I would guess that the sample sizes arent big enough yet to determine anything.
The first cases in South Afrca were young healthy people from a rich community.
We would need to know how it effects older people etc.
Hospitalizations are up but that could be because so many are getting sick.
Mild symptoms could also be down to the vaccines.
So far it looks way more infectious. The big outbreak over here was very surprising to say the least. It also seems that you can get infected even though you’ve had Covid earlier.
From a party of 94 people so far 47 have gotten infected.
They had all given a negative test prior to the party. So wasnt dected by a test either.
If it is mild then yea. We don't know if it is.Although, isn't the absolute best scenario, if it is a highly communicative but mild variant, to encourage its spread? That would probably be the end of the pandemic as well. The biggest issue will be countries with low vaccination rates I reckon, and how they will cope.
In 12 days South Africa went from 312 cases to 16 000 cases per day.
Yea good point. It would be great if much lower deaths. It would just be about making sure hospitals can cope. How many deaths? Genuine question.

Pretty sure Sweden abandoned their original strategy and brought in more restrictions
At the minute maybe, but they have Covid certs, have had restrictions on dining/events etc. Pretty sure they abandoned the original strategy, that people were talking about, at the end of last year, and aligned closer to what most other European countries were doing. @Modo can probably confirm.
Hal is actually right, we've implemented vaccination ID's and that's about it. Everything is open for vaccinated people. If you're not vaccinated you can't attend certain events or gatherings.
I have to be at work at least 3 days a week. No more keeping distance, no more masks. Well, masks were never mandatory in the first place just a recommendation.
Our public health officials rely totally on facts, unless omicron suddenly starts killing people there won't be any new "recommendations".
The infection numbers are so low now and we've pretty much killed off everyone who was at risk from the virus so, it's back to business for us.
I read that a record number of condoms were sold in Aug/Sep so, we really stopped caring.
Yes, right again. It's not mandatory but, it's in their interest to want to have it in place.Am I right in thinking it's also down to organisers of large events to decide whether or not they want all attendees to be vaccinated? It's not actually mandated by the government?
Don't get me wrong, we're having a party now, but we certainly fucked up.I think it was, or something similar, ai had read before: https://www.businessinsider.com/swe...stimated-strenght-virus-lofven-stefan-2020-12
Didn't the Swedish government pretty much say "We got it wrong"?Don't get me wrong, we're having a party now, but we certainly fucked up.
