Maybe my position here is coloured by the fact that I was just laid off by a very profitable company after just delivering 20% growth in my department because shareholders weren't getting enough value from the company at large.

I mean, fuck corporations. Seriously. But it's ridiculous to complain when they do what they are literally established to do.

If it is any consolation, when those shareholders get their quarterly statement this year, value won't be the first word that comes to their mind.

I see Kyle Walker is getting a lot of shite on Twitter because he posted on social media about people staying safe and at home, and then an hour earlier inviting two prozzies to his house.

I can not believe his defence wasnt;
support your local businesses during a time like this.

I'm going to go across grain a bit here.
Don't see why professional athletes at top level clubs should accept pay cuts when their profitable clubs are owned by billionaires who arent hurting.

And don't see why lizard billionaire sports club owners are different from lizard billionaire corporate owners of other kinds.

If the government made the aid package accessible by large corporations without respect to their ability to continue paying employees or without respect to their "contributions to society" that's on the government, not on the clubs.

Now if we really wanted to raise funds for a more equitable society, wealth tax the shit out of Bezos, Buffett, Gates, Murdoch, et al. But that's a different conversation altogether.

I don't think the players should take pay cuts either. The point to me is the club could continue to pay all staff at least for the next couple of months without the scheme. Football at least pretends to be different to multi billion corporations (who shouldn't be as freely able to take advantage of it but they could just as easily fire staff due to flimsy employment laws).

It sucks doesn't it? I worked for a company a few years ago who took on a couple of large institutional investors with a large enough stake to get on the board. They took a look at the Dublin office and decided it was too expensive, despite the quality if the work being excellent and our office being comfortably profitable, and shipped about 80% of the work off to India over the next two years.

The club did step up to ensure non-playing staff would be paid regardless. Then the government moved in with relief and the club is taking advantage, like any business would.

I dont see why a football club should act any different from any other large corporation.

Would be a very different picture if the club had originally left employees hanging before government came in, or if the club was not topping up the remaining salary not covered.

I think that's fair enough but I think large corporations with big cash reserves shouldn't taking advantage of this, at least not yet.

If people dislike the ThisMeansMore' stuff, they should be equally withering about the Shankly 'socialism' guff. There's a Guardian piece now along the lines of 'Shankly wouldn't have stood for this'. Well, one, he had only the vaguest idea what socialism (in any of its many forms) actually meant (sorry, the dopey boneheads at SOS, but it's the truth), and second, I really doubt he had any idea of or interest in what was happening at the club to employees outside his squad and his assistants. So this 'what would Shankly have thought?' angle - it's shit. In fact, if you run with the mythology and really do consider what he'd say today, he'd probably resent the very role of many of those employees (such as those at LFCTV) who are now being treated badly. So it would be refreshing if all these RAWKistas just dropped the past and concentrated on arguing their cause in there here and now. It's not difficult.

This is what I said would happen weeks ago when I was talking to my mates god I hope this happens

I'm past the point of caring about winning it infront of a packed Anfield. Just win it behind closed doors, and when things are back to normal have a parade that tops just about everything.

Maybe we can organise a massive zoom party for all LFC Fans to watch he matches together :)
