Am I wrong in thinking he isn't going to be any thing more than another Shelvey or Spearing type of player? Great as a bit part player but at best only makes the bench or is sold to a midtable club where he will get game time.

He's 21.. plenty of time to make his mark.

One thing it took me a long time to realize is that, the club is also in the business of making money off talent it will never really use on an ongoing basis.

Give some young player a few starts, comfortably fill in a position for a while, raise his price. He likely won't become a regular so sell him for $20M down the line to a mid table club.

I'm not saying Jones is this type of player, but some have been

I don"t see Curtis as another Shelvey. Curtis comes across as arrogant but he has skill and a footballing brain. Shelvey on the other hand has lots of talent but sadly has no footballing intelligence or indeed any other type whatsoever. If Curtis can develop some more he may make it to the next level. But I do take your point, we may just get 20 mil in the Summer trasfer window.

Why would we sell Curtis?

He's young improving, and already doing a good job filling in for more senior midfielders when needed. Milner gone, Henderson on the wain potentially, Ox not trusted. If we sold him we'd have to replace him plus one more at least.

Makes no sense to sell.

Why would you even think of selling him at thus point. He has proved in flashes that he is good enough to play for Liverpool.
He is young so inconsistent. And there are less players out there who could start ahead of these two.

Holds onto the ball way too long and disrupts our quick tempo. He's been the same in this regard for 2 years. When you're young you adapt quickly. He hasn't.
Not sure he'll make it at Liverpool. I'm sure he'd do well at certain top division clubs.
Totally agree. He is good in possession and he is a willing runner, but those are not qualities that necessarily ensures his place in our midfield. He is supposedly an attacking minded midfielder, but when was the last time he contributed significantly to a goal we scored? He shits his pants everytime he gets near the final 3rd. He hadn't developed much since 2 years ago, and that is with him fully involved in OUR famed setup. So how much more time should we give him? I just don't see it.

He’s 21 years old and is trying to break into the midfield of, currently, one of the best teams on the planet.

I’m hardly his biggest fan, but he’s doing fine as far as I’m concerned and he has plenty of time ahead of him.

He looks like he’s positioning himself as Thiago’s understudy which I think is great - he’ll have a chance to develop, and be in a place to make that position his own in a few years time when Thiago inevitably moves or is moved on.

We could sell him if a top dollar offer comes in and we’re looking for cash - but we probably aren’t, and it makes no real sense to shift him.

He's already made it from a youth product standpoint. He's proven that he's good enough to play at this level and indeed, at times, in this team.

Perhaps he hasn't progressed loads, sure, but then he hasn't played loads either. We can talk about young players needing to adapt quickly but the main thing young players need is regular game time and he hasn't gotten it. He's gotten some decent minutes under his belt but generally filling in due to squad rotation and cups.

He's young, local and plays in an area of the team where you always needs depth. Even if you view him as 5/10 type player, those can be useful in the right set up. Just look back at the crap Ferguson put to use in those title winning squads.

The big question is whether he'll be cool with a squad filler role (particularly if Carvahlo and / or Elliot leapfrog him in the pecking order).

In the match thread, I saw several times that many praised him when he played for us during this season. Not really sure what happened after that if I missed something. Right now Thiago, Keita and to an extent Hendo are all in good form so obviously he is not coming in to replace anyone.

I would be patient with him and he does learn and adapts also as Klopp once pointed out.
