Apparently...

How do we set up for this...

Matip back.... Hopefully Bobby and Mo can take their performance in the UTD game into this game..

Nothing other than a win will do..

First of 4 games against the top 6 before the end of February..

Win 6 of the next 7 and number 20 is within our sights again..

Our away form is shite.. so it's going to need a rapid turn around our lads..

Season starts now..

I can't see us setting up in any other way than our strongest 11, regardless of players being out of form or not. We need the team to start firing,so it's our best 11 availble on paper for me

This needs 'back to basics' for our CM system - which should be high energy & pressing. Presuming that Hendo is out I think that is:

-------------Alisson-------------
Trent--Matip--Fabs--Robbo
--------Millie----Thiago-------
-------------Gini-----------------
Salah----Bobby---Mane----

Milner looked v good against United, and is probably the closest to replicating the intensity of Hendo in the middle. We'll need that to get at Hojberg & Ndombele.

Switch Gini and Thiago around imo.

In the bad old days when we went on a bad run we would then win a game like United in the Cup whre you had more-or-less given up in advance. So - comforting perhaps that we didn't yesterday. Shows that times have changed.

I expect Jose to sit back and hope for a break.

Attack like we did against United and we'll score at least 2.

Defend like we did against United and we'll concede at least 2.

It will be exactly the same as the United game, only Kane is far more dangerous than Cavani.

Matip and Henderson have to come back in otherwise we'll lose.

Love Gini, but he looked goosed yesterday - well off the pace and slowing down many of our moves.

Assuming Keita is still unavailable, I would start with Curtis who was much more of an attacking threat when he came on.

I mean, we were better yesterday than we had been in weeks and weeks...so by that logic im anticipating the form to continue, just need a few more players from the first team squad to reach the levels we know they can and we'll be fine.

That said, Its Mourinho, we'll get hit on the break and bummed.

2-2.

Kane is an improvement on Cavani, and Son is vastly superior to any of Utds wide forwards. So this wont be easy at all. However I dont think Spurs have the same level of guile in midfield as Utd do with Pogba and Fernandes. Spurs much like us are a bit functional in the middle so this will be a bit of an arm wrestle for dominance of the centre of the park

If Henderson is back, then I would play him alongside Gini, and Curtis. I don't think Thiago is actually good enough based on yesterday's game - things just passed him buy and I can tell you guys now - whatever you think of his ability, he does not provide the same 'something' level that Gini provides. Don't think Gini slowed us down at all yesterday. It is such a shame that Fab is stuck in defense right now, and also where the fuck is Keita ? - is that guy ever going to be available for us - I just don't get it, who can he be that injured - I mean is he permanently fucked or what ?

I'm old fashioned but I wouldn't play Gini or have him in squad unless there is emergency.

If your heart is not in it, you don't play....

I understand that sentiment however with Fabinho currently in defence, Keita injured, doubts over Hendo and Milner unlikley to play twice in 4 days it seems we really dont have much choice. Currently our fit midfielders are Gini, Thiago, Ox, Curtis and Milner.

Based on that Gini would be the first midfielder picked.

What? Why is there even a thread on this game. We always beat Spurs without Lovern. 2-0. West Ham pre game is where it’s at. 😀

With Matip and Fabinho I'm a lot less worried about the Spurs attack.

Hendo seems to be 50/50 so hopefully he can start. Keita likely still out. Spurs not missing anyone of note.

Back 5 and front 3 as expected. I can't see Ox. Or Minamino starting. If Hendo is fit then :
.............. Hendo

Thiago....................Milner (works well with Robbo)

If they tire then Jones and Shaq. later.

If Hendo is out then :

............... Gini

Thiago................ Milner

If Hendo is fit I going with 4 in Mid. Hendo,Thiago,Gini,Jones with Salah and Mane up front. Milner in if Hendo isn't fit.We have to grind out results now. We can suck them in and hit them on the counter. We can play that game. Keep it very tight, choke them off.
