Speculation on players shouldn't include those of a certain age. We are not going to be successful by merely filling short-term needs at LFC

This doesn't sound like the tweet of an owner contemplating buying a twenty nine year old striker
is that recent?

No, it's old. We still need experience aswell, especially at this stage where we're short of ideas. I'm not totally advocating it, there's alot of negatives, especially financially, but he's a good player, he's quick and he knows where the goal is. I'd rather have him than Bent.

how much experience do we need?
Sorry, it's not but for some reason popped up just now in between lots of recent stuff.
I didn't check the date, just assuming it was from a similar time frame to other tweets in the timeline.

If we are in for some one like Defoe it will have meant quite a shift in thinking

There's only two of those though that Kenny looks like he actually wants to play. Out on the pitch it's Pepe and Gerrard, so that's one experienced outfield player, a South American he clearly doesn't fancy who can't get a sniff and two players who are nearly past it.

a goal hanger isn't the answer to our problems, he'll only grow frustrasted at the lack of service.

spent 15-20 million on herrara and/or munian and work on a top notch striker next year (but top notch ala cavani top ntoch)

Our attack looks ponderous at the moment particularly in the absence of Suarez. If we were looking for I striker I would prefer pace to experience. 🙂

that 'was' the case earlier in the season but recently we've struggled to create genuine chances and even if we were creating a sea of chances I'd still want a striker who is as capable outside the box as he was inside it.

The key word there is, or ought to be, 'merely'. If certain short-term needs need filling, they need filling. That's not inconsistent with a general policy emphasising youth development.

I want Ba. Fuck Defoe.
Yup.

I've said it before, spending £10m on 29 year old Defoe is daft when Nicky Maynard 24 (Bristol City) is available for about £2m. Bristol City turned down £7m for him last season, thinking/hoping he'd sign a contract extention. He now has 6 months left on his contract and is available at a budget price. He's very similar in style to Defoe and could prove at least as good.

There is no downside to this deal as we would be able to sell Maynard for £4m-£5m at least even if he wasn't succesful for us.

Maynard ticks all John Henry's boxes; cheap, big sell-on potential, young and very possibly a very good addition to the squad/team. He ticks Kenny's/Comolli's box i.e. potential "fox-in-the-box" goalscorer. My gut feeling is he'll go to Everton or Bolton.

Then to a top 6 side for £25 million, 2 years later?

Our current potential match winners are Suarez, Bellamy and Gerrard. I'd prefer that we add another to our ranks during this window whether it be a striker, winger, inside forward, whatever. Great players figure out how to play football together regardless of field position and formations.

There is an outside chance that he could become worth that (if he signed for an EPL team and scored 25+ in a season etc) but the fact is he is probably worth what Leicester offered for him last summer i.e. £7m. To me his signing is a no-brainer, even if he fails at LFC he'd still be worth £4m+ to a top Championship club next year and if he is as good as I think he is then he could become a £20m+ player and score bucket-loads for us.

Linked with Moussa Sow today. Swap him with Cole and a few mill. Win win.

The fact that he would still be a better option up front than Carroll or Kuyt doesn't cheer me up >🙁

They don't have a pot to pee in though. At least Bolton could spend some of the Cahill money on Maynard.
