Dejan Leavren

Delighted he's going. Only thing he seemed good for was keeping Mo's spirits up.

I'd trust Ragnar Klavan before i'd trust Dejan. The Watford game still irks me.

It's not hard to find a better 4th choice CB. I'd sure we can get a Gomez type in the Championship. Preferably one who can play LB on occasion too.
Has anyone seen enough Bournemouth games to know if we should go and get Lloyd Kelly if they get relegated?

Such a frustrating player. On his day could look world class and generally was decent but you never knew when he was going to lose his head and the game for his team.

I don't think we can afford to rely on Fabinho / youth as backups without signings in at least one defensive area.

Thats £10m plus the £28m from last season, how much are we getting for Shaq, £25m? Still I doubt the owners will release any cash.

We also have the youngster van den berg. He turned down a host of big European clubs to sign for us. He may well step up to 4th choice alongside fabs as emergency

Nah...he's not there yet and it's not looking that likely either.

As long as we get Mbappe to replace him I don't mind.

Salah is just a world class, goalscoring, one footed, weak, pace merchant who lives off the shoulder of the defender. He's more replaceable than Mane who's a world class, strong, pacey, goalscoring, playmaking, two footed, skillful, enigma, who is good with feet and head, and happens to work incredibly hard at both ends of the pitch.

The thing about Salah is he's rarely injured, which is a great quality to have and has provided incredible value for money spent, but I don't rate him as highly as some people on here do. Wouldn't make my all-time Liverpool 11. Mad, I know.

Would be an acceptable swap. Mane is the attacker I least want to lose hands down.

He’s become my favourite player by a distance.

He’s got absolutely everything in his locker.

I’ll be stunned if he makes it
Agreed,

To many people are happy that Lovren is going, I don't know what people smoke on here but people just remember his bad days, the has had many good games with us, and was a world cup finalist, CL finalist, CL Winner. I remember that interview where Klopp once said - I get rid of him so who do I get to replace him ? - yes we got VVD and then Matip, and Gomez came along, but I remember some games where he was better than VVD. So I am going to be interested if he goes who replaces him.

If he was happy to take a pay cut and stay 4th choice I’d keep him but it’s not the biggest loss either.
Hopefully Gomez has an injury free season as he is superb beside VVD.

We'll defo be getting another centre half, and whoever it is will be better than this useless bag of shite.

Between him, lallana, shaq and clyne that's 20 million a year off the wage bill. We'll surely be bringing a couple of decent players in and a couple for the squad.

Would be a shrewd signing. Capable of playing across the back.

Don't know anything about him, honestly, but looks decent. Very much a RCB, which is what we're looking for.

Here's an analysis of one of his games from 2 years ago in Spanish (I guess he played at RB then):

Yeah, why would we want a RB/RCB? Gomez, Matip and Fabinho are all RCBs, and Virgil our only LCB. If anything, we'd want someone who can play LCB/LB.

I thought it's obvious – Virgil plays every game when fit, which he has always been so far, thankfully. So you're really looking for cover/competition for Matip/Gomez. Having a RB experience helps as someone like Gomez often has to cover for Trent. If Virgil cannot play for any reason, there is no problem in Matip or Gomez moving to LCB either. But a specialist LCB would have hardly any hope of getting into the team as long as Virgil is here.

I think we have cover for Matip/Gomez in Fabinho. As for RB, it seems evident that Klopp is trusting Neco to be the primary backup behind Trent. Fabinho or Milner can play there if needed. Worth considering that Hoever seems to be a RCB/RB too.

On the larger point of a 4th CB, I agree with you that it's unlikely he gets much playing time unless Virgil gets injured. I suspect Klopp will simply make do with what we have.

I hope we don't pluck out Fabinho out of the midfield too much, that should be only the last resort.

For RB, I think I didn't express it clearly – I meant Gomez (or Matip) covering for Trent when playing at CB. Lots of times our RCB in particular gets drawn to the right flank and has to prevent a cross or tackle, which is where a RB experience would come handy I would think.

The thing with lovren is I can't help multiplying how shit he is with how much of a whopping cunt he is. It puts him up there with Paul Ince for making me feel a bit sick. Can't even watch that compilation, would rather just forget he ever existed.

Just keep the header against Dortmund as the only memory.

I don't think 'glad he is going' has to equal 'he's always been a liability and I hate him'.

I'm glad he is going, because he's undeniably 4th choice, he is 31 and it sounds like we are getting a decent price for him.

Of course he has had good games and of course he has contributed to our success, but if we just kept every player until retirement based on that logic we would ultimately get worse and never have any money.
