Does this muppet ever learn?

Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has claimed his Reds team-mates can recreate the golden era of Barcelona and dominate world football.

That great Barcelona side won five La Liga titles and three Champions Leagues while Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp have won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup and look on course to lift their first ever Premier League title.

Currently sat 22 points above their nearest challengers, Lovren believes the Reds have what it takes to enjoy a period of sustained success and go down in history as one of the best teams ever.

“I’ve been there from the beginning with Jurgen and it took a while, two or three years, to build everything up,” he said.

“We clicked this year, maybe even last year, but we missed out by one point on the Premier League title. Now we understand each other, what we need, what we want.

“I especially want us to remembered like the Barcelona team which won all those trophies.

“Why should we not? I think we can do it — and I want to be remembered as one of the best teams that ever played. Not only for this year but for many, many years.

“It’s a privilege to be in the dressing-room and to see smiling faces. But it’s not about that, it’s about how we are still reacting on the training ground.

“We are still hungry, still greedy, this is what makes us special. Many other teams would go easy now with a 22-point lead — but we don’t look at those 22 points.

“We are just focused game by game and this is the simplest way to be the best.

“It is good for the young ones to see that even if you are on top, you still need to work as hard as if you were in the middle or in last position.

“Of course I want to be in a team that wins many trophies. I feel I have quite a lot of years to give in professional football. I’m 30, so another five good years.”

He can't have long left on his contract , can't imagine he would get extended , he's already on a wedge

he could out the door in the summer though we will probably end up keeping him as no one will cough 20 million plus for him

He's got a year left. We'll sell him to an Italian or German club in the summer.

Fuck it, I love that shit. Especially now we're doing well.

When we're shit and hes making mistakes as a starter then nah.... Us winning games, looking top dogs and him on the bench, i'm all for it

You'd think that he's walked into the offices of the scum and asked to do an interview given some of the replies here, "thanks for the Napoli goal, now fuck off" eh??

The lad was at a club run event promoting Internet Safety and was asked, in a slightly more relaxed setting than around a match, a few questions. What's he meant to do FFS?

Talk about internet safety I guess?

I think this is possibly related to the jinxy meme that suggest every time fucking Degsy opens his gob, we immediately get a shoeing, and/or he fucks up horribly.

It’s really fucking stupid, aint it.

The guy is mostly saying what we have heard from basically any player who has been interviewed; “we are still focused”, “not looking at the points/table”, “want to win more trophies” and simply adds that he wants to this to be remembered as one of the GOAT teams, which this team is on pace to be as it can break and set all kinds of records if we stay undefeated the rest of the season, yet the assclowns are rushing to their keyboards to blast the guy. Morons.

'GOAT'
'Assclowns'
'Blast the guy'

You didn't say 'shucks' or 'gee'

Disappointed

I’m willing to bet that had that been van Dijk or Henderson, they would have said one game at a time please and nothing more. This man can’t just help himself, can he? 20 trophies in five seasons?

Is he plural now? This can't end well. I'll blame it on degsy.

It's like people have zero concept of journalism. If Hendo/VVD had been asked similar you'd have a slightly less quotable result. If they were asked about future prospects and success over a period of time it wouldn't be "one game at a time" otherwise they'd sound like fucking idiots, just as they wouldn't not answer the question.

for reference here is the context of his next words, after the above;

"Why should we not do that? I think we can do it and I want that we are remembered as one of the best teams that have played - not only for this year, but for many, many years."

And here's your mantra reference;

"We are still hungry, still greedy and this is what makes us special to be honest.
"I think many other teams would go easy now with a 22-point lead but we don't look at these 22 points. We are just focused game-by-game and this I think is the simplest way to be the best."

Why does anyone give a fuck about the number also? It's the team he's referring to, we all know which because they were the greatest team in the world for a sustained period, and he's saying (RIGHTLY) we should be aiming for that level, and to be held in that regard after a few years would be the accomplishment. We bring the league and its 4 in a calendar year at minimum, so not like it's not doable. He's 30 and likely not getting another contract, so he isn't even talking about himself here.

Some of you are truly hysterical bellends.

Lovren is a charismatic bastard who keeps mo happy by being shit at ping pong

He can do what he likes

@Fallon

Lovren's comments are getting attention as he has a history of bigging him / us up only to go full blown Lovren the following weekend. Think it was before that calamitous Spurs game he did it and numerous other times too. He stated he was one of the best centre backs in the world only to fuck up in the very next game. It's classic Lovren though. I remember creating a thread titled Dejan Lovren Himself or Dejan Loves Himself. Can't remember.
Van Dijk, Trent or insert someone else here wouldn't be drawn into providing sensationalist headlines as they don't feel the need to massage their own egos.

You definately deserve a like for that passion about a light banter. It is the same passion that drives the team forward. If you have halfdecent left foot you should be Robbo' s stand in with that explotion of angry energy

Relax mate. It's a myth . he did it less than 17 times and all in a sudden it is a fact?

I'm not angry nor incredulous to be honest, and I get in a slow footy news week stuff like this will likely pop up. I would just expect given the season people might be able to relax a bit, especially when the quotes are much ado about nothing. Was his unbeaten quote last year the reason we lost 1 league game? No. Was his best defender (one of, and that year.....the all important context) quote the reason Croatia lost to France? No!

So maybe, you'd think, some of our 'support' wouldn't call him a cunt given the season and that he has already made a meaningful contribution. Guess a bit too much to ask.
