Different Gravy

Liverpool midfielder and Johan Cruyff Foundation ambassador Ryan Gravenberch opened a Cruyff Court at Anfield Sports and Community Centre (ASCC) alongside LFC Foundation in a joyful event.

Family members and former Reds goalkeeper and Cruyff Foundation ambassador Sander Westerveld joined Gravenberch at the event on Wednesday.

This is the second Cruyff Court named after Gravenberch after the Netherlands international also opened one in his home city of Amsterdam last year.

The unveiling of another Cruyff Court in Liverpool reflects Gravenberch’s commitment to Johan Cruyff’s legacy
, which is all about empowering the next generation through sport, inclusion and opportunity with the continued support of LFC Foundation.

The Reds’ No.38 said: “This was a very special event, through a special foundation, at a special place, close to a special club.

“I think it is very important that all children can have the opportunity to play sport. Sport has always played a big role in my life.

“That’s exactly why I think it’s important that every child can participate, regardless of their special needs or where they come from. I am very proud to contribute to this through the Cruyff Foundation.”

Don’t blame me for the shite writing. It’s the standard of the Echo these days.

Too fucking right, thought the idiots were gonna give it to Skelly.
Well they probably are because he's ineligible for the other prize. For the PFA young player award, players must have been aged 21 or under as of 1 July immediately preceding the start of the season

Well deserved.

He was the player of the league in the first half of the season, performance levels have fluctuated since then which transpired due to a lack of rotation and Mac taking the shine off of him.

I've bigged Slot up on here before now for getting the best out of Gravy, but the player himself has to take enormous credit for doing his bit as well to make the transformation work. Now I'm wondering how good this guy can go on to be, provided he stays on track.

Some weren’t sure he’d be a success at Liverpool following an unspectacular first campaign under Jürgen Klopp, but Arne Slot elevated Ryan Gravenberch‘s performances to another level.

Moving him deeper in midfield from a number 8 to a number 6 proved revelatory for Liverpool, who were questioned for not bringing in another defensive midfielder last summer. Slot would have been aware of Gravenberch’s talent having come across him on numerous occasions in the Dutch Eredivisie, and his faith in the former Ajax star has paid dividends.

Out of possession, Gravenberch has been key to Liverpool winning the ball back from opponents high up the pitch this season. The Dutchman has made more high turnovers than any other player at the club (44) in the Premier League, with eight of those leading to shots.

No Liverpool player has won possession back from opponents as often as Gravenberch (193) in the Premier League this season
, while his tally of interceptions (60) was the third most in the competition behind only West Ham’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka (66) and Fulham’s Antonee Robinson (62).

His emergence as a dependable option helped provide stability in the spine of the Liverpool team, and that cannot be overlooked as a vital factor in their successful season.
