We fucked every contract with the deals we handed out over the last 12 months. Others want some sort of parity.

Yep - not only did we show what we pay our 'best' with Mo & Virg by chucking 400k a week contracts out, we showed that an average player in our squad (Gakpo) can get 250k a week. Every single renewal will point to this as the benchmark. We've caused a lot of problems for ourselves here, as Szobo is much more important to this squad than Gakpo, and rightly will say he should earn more.

I'd be offering him parity with Wirtz (200k-250k) and then calling it a day. Gakpo just needs to get off the books - completely agree he's a horrible benchmark that agents can latch onto.
