it's got something of the grim inevitability of a greek tragedy about it, this downing saga. just won't go away.

can't say i'm too happy about the prospect of having spent £50m+ on carroll and downing. that's some serious, proper, rapage, and i don't care what ken clarke says about it.
 
£16m or £18m...it's way too much for Downing.

He's a £10m player at the very most in my view. Crazy times.

Even if Shanks himself made this signing it would be hard to get behind it. Why are we wasting our money on players like downing. I thought we were beyond this...

If it's a case of paying 18m for Downing and getting Mata, I'd prefer we signed neither.

he'll improve us but can we really not do better for that kind of money? who could we get for 18 mill?

ye just been watching the interview, i never minded rafa but getting rid of him to try and get gareth fuckin barry was just abysmal

Exactly. Haven't you seen that youtube video? If you watch it on fast-forward he looks even pacier you know.
 
Lads i couldn't agree more with you...

But all this sniping is not really helping anyone.

We have brought in 40 million worth of players at 80 million. There is no denying that, let's hope that Kenny and these players are able to manage the expectation that this transfer price places on them.

It won't be long before the punditry on tele becomes overly critical of Kenny, if we are not winning every game, i just hope the fans don't follow suite. You can't really blame any of them though, because we have massively over-paid and made a whopping rod for our collective backside.
 
What if he goes on to score 10 league goals and make 20.

Then is he worth the fee we paid for him?

At what point will you two accept the fee is worth it, there's no point in writing either the fee or player off just yet.
