I'm not writing Downing off, I'm writing off the hysterical flip-flopped minds of half of this forum who are too scared to admit they didn't want him a few weeks ago, but now are in love with it cos we've paid a hefty wedge for him.

It's embarassing.

This is getting embarrassing. Not many are 'flip-flopping' around over him, a few have gone over the top, but most have been fairly level headed about it. You're generalising about most of the forum in a typical act of one-upmanship. I don't see many oozing in awe, he's just had a good season and I hope he continues it into this season, did anyone say they're in love with the idea? Did they shite.
 
I can only hope he proves me terribly wrong.

I've realised I'm not even too upset as I realised this was going to happen almost a week back. And that point it was so upsetting that I was literally seething reading the Downing thread. Now there's just calm.

Thinking positively, I'm hopeful that he will over the course of the next 3-4 years prove himself to be worth at least 60% of what we paid for him, but really that's the best I can hope for.
