Liverpool tipped to agree deal for Juventus attacker in coming weeks

Liverpool could be ready to agree a deal to sign Paulo Dybala from Juventus in a matter of weeks, according to reports.
Jurgen Klopp is looking to add a new central striking option to his squad this summer, and according to Tutto Mercato the Reds are pushing hard to get a deal for the Argentine agreed.
The report claims that Liverpool could make a move to agree a deal in the coming weeks, although at this stage it is unclear how much Juve want for the 25-year-old.
Dybala has scored just nine goals in 35 matches for the Old Lady this season, a drop off from his prolific season in 2017-18 in which he notched 26 times in 46 appearances in all competitions.
The Argentina international, who moved to Turin from Palermo in 2015, has previously been rated in the £100million bracket – although that may have dropped given his tougher times in front of goal this campaign.
The Reds are expected to sign at least one new attacker this season, with doubts over the futures of both Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi.

At his best he's Suarez-like though, running defenders ragged, scoring and creating. At the right price, we should be interested, I think.

Surely this could have gone in the 'Transfer Rumours' thread?

One source, Tutto Mercato....hmmmm.

He wouldn't be allowed to be lazy if he came to Liverpool. He's a cracking player and would be perfect to rotate into our front 3. Yes please!

to come here and play second fiddle to frim...

cant see that happening to be fair...

Can Dybala play as an AM ?

There are enough games, and he's good enough that he wouldn't necessarily be playing second fiddle. When in form Bobby is immense, but his form has probably suffered from not having proper competition. Having both players would make both better.

He can also play RW and AM.

Very good player, but the fee will determine if this is a good move or not. If Juventus will drop their asking price a bit then go for it.

I like what I've seen of him, but it's mostly from clips and the Markovic fiasco has left me very wary of making primarily Youtube-based assessments.

I think hes pretty much a Firmino upgrade, which is no bad thing, can play across the front line

More of an upgrade on Shaqiri for me. Left-footed, likes to score from distance or run in behind, superb dribbler and passer of the ball and overall good enough to justify tweaking the system to have him playing in his favored #10 position. One major difference with Shaqiri is that he can also play as a striker and is good at playing with his back to goal, so he potentially can perform Firmino's role in the middle, even in a 4-3-3.

Here's a useful description from Wikipedia:
A quick, creative, elegant, and agile player, with excellent technical ability, Dybala is known for his dribbling skills, balance, and close control in limited spaces, as well as his ability to beat opponents in one on one situations and protect or hold up the ball for teammates with his back to goal. Due to his speed on the ball, positioning, intelligent movement, and ball skills, he excels during counter-attacks and at beating the offside trap when making attacking runs. A hardworking player, he is also known for his stamina and defensive contribution off the ball. Dybala is capable both of creating chances for teammates, as well as scoring goals himself, due to his vision, passing, link-up play, and ability to drop deep and play off of other players, as well as his powerful and accurate ball-striking ability from both inside and outside the area. Despite his diminutive stature, Dybala is also effective at scoring with his head, due to his acceleration over short distances, and his ability to anticipate defenders inside the box.

A versatile forward, he is capable of playing in any offensive position: he has been deployed as a main striker, as a centre-forward, as a supporting forward, as an attacking midfielder, as a playmaker, as a false-9, or even as an inverted winger on the right flank, where he is able to cut into the centre and curl shots on goal with his stronger left foot. Because of his work-rate and involvement in the build-up of his team's attacking plays, in addition to his goalscoring ability, Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri has even deployed Dybala as an offensive-minded central midfielder on occasion (known as a "mezz'ala", in Italian), and described him as a "box-to-box player" ("tuttocampista", in Italian) in 2018. He has also operated in a deeper playmaking role on occasion. Dybala is also accurate from both free kicks and penalties.

His playing style has drawn comparisons with compatriots Sergio Agüero, Javier Pastore, Carlos Tevez, Omar Sívori, Diego Maradona, and Lionel Messi, as well as former Italian forwards Vincenzo Montella, Alessandro Del Piero, and Roberto Baggio, the latter of whom described Dybala as the number 10 of the future in 2017. Widely considered to be a highly talented prospect in world football, in 2014, Don Balón named him one of the 100 most promising young players in the world born after 1993. Despite his talent, however, his mentality has come into question at times in the media.

We wouldnt be spending that sort of cash on a player who wasnt going into the first team. Upgrading squad players is fine but hardly a priority. Also the stats show he has spent the vast majority of his career as a CF/SS which is Firminos role.

I think he will be a marginal step up on Firminho.

Our front three are at a level that we are unlikely to get a player who will be an obvious step up. Still we must buy a player who can play at the same level. Dybala is as good a choice we are likely to get...

Unless you think we need to go down the route of unearthing a hidden gem, which will have a higher chance of failure.

I don't get this attitude. If we lose the league this season it will essentially be because we didn't have the strength of City who have serious quality at any given time on the bench to change frustrating games. We lost the CL final last year because of our lack of top notch quality beyond a first 11, particularly in the attacking positions. Someone of this quality will regularly be in the first 11, giving a rest to the other guys. At the minute they are playing too many games, and if we'd have stayed in the domestic cups more than 5 minutes we'd be really fucked just now. On other occasions Dybala has the kind of quality in which we might revive the 'fab 4', against teams that park the bus. Dybala will not be short of games, and will put pressure to perform on our current front 3. Sorry, but Origi and Studge are not doing that.
